Description
C. W. SCHREDER. Apparatus for Drying Dishes.
I Patented om. 23, 1866i Mya.
ANrrED STATES Parar O. W. SOHROEDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED APPARATUS FOR DRYlN-G DISHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,053., dated October 23,1866.
To all whom 'it may concern.-
Beit known that I, G. W. SCHROEDER, of the city, county, and State ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Drying Dishes, Plates, Ste.; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot' this specification, in Whichl Figurel represents a sectional front elevation of this invention. Y Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section ot' the same.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate like parts. This invention relates to a box or stand, which is provided with one or more shelves to receive the dishes, plates, &c., to be dried, and with steam-pipes or other suitable heaters, in such a manner that dishes, plates, and other similar articles, when placed on said shelves after they have been washed, will dry rapidly by the action of the air, and the use of a towel for wiping such dishes, plates, &c.,. in order to get them dry can be dispensed with.
- Theordinarymethodot'dryingdishes, plates, &c., after the same have been washed, is to wipe the same with towels otl cotton or linen cloth, and as the towels become worn some of the bers are lia-ble to separate from their bodies and to adhere to the dishes, plates, &c., to the great detriment of the whole operation. This diculty is avoided by the use ot1 my drying box or stand A, which is provided with a series ot' shelves, a, that are so arranged that plates, dishes, Svc., can be placed on them in an inclined position, as shown particularly in Fig. l of the drawings.
Two shelves cxtendparallel to each other throughout the entire length of the box or stand, and between each pair of shelves extends a steam-pipe, b or, instead of a steampipe', a heater, c, may be arranged between the shelves, said heater being lled with hot water orany other suitable heated material. The bottoms of the shelves are formed of a latticea work, through which the water nds its way readily to the gutters d, and the plates and dishes are readily and quickly dried by the combined action of air and heat. The water which collects in the gutters d is conducted oft through pipes e, and the dishes, plates, 8vo., when dr'ied, are removed and put away, or they may be immediately used again. No towel or brous material comes in contact with the plates, dishes, or other articles, and oonse-y i storing away the plates, dishes, &c., after the same have been dried; or, if desired, sugar, tea, coffee, or provisions ot' any kind may be stored up in said surplus space.
It is obvious that the box or stand can be made in a great many different t'orms, and I do not wish to contine myself to any particular form or shape.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An apparatus for drying dishes, 8vo., composed of a box or stand provided with one or more sets ot' shelves and intermediate heaters, substantially as and for the purpose described.
G, W. SCHROEDER.
