L. E. FISHER. FAN ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING MACHINES. No. 589,706. Patented Sept. 7,1897.
III/1,1711% ggfslis i a).
RTTORN EY.
UNITED STATES PATENT @rricn.
LEONIDE EMMA FISHER, OF MONTOURSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
FAN ATTACHMENT ECdR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,'706, dated September 7, 1897.
Application filed October 21,1896. Serial Ho. 609,540i (No model.)
10 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known. that I, Lnoninn EMMA Fisnnn, residing at Montoursville, in the county of Lycoining, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Fan Attachments for Sewing-Machines, which improve ment is f nlly set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention has for its object an attachment for a sewing-machine adapted for fanning purposes; and itconsists of means where by a fan may be conveniently, quickly, easily, and reliably connected with a movable member of said machine and receive power therefrom.
Figure 1 represents the end elevation of a fan attachment fora sewing-machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and a partial section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a section of a detached portion.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the driving-shaft of a sewing-machine, the same being provided with a shoulder or head B on. the end thereof.
C designates a fan consisting of the blades D and the hub or neck E, which latter is placed parallel with the end of the shaft A and retained in position by means of the clamp F and screw G, said clamp consisting of a cross-bar ll and hooks or lips J on the ends thereof, the screw being fitted on said bar and adapted to tightening against the neck E and press the same against the end of the shaft and head B.
It will be noticed that when the fan is located the lips J are slipped over the periphery of the head 13, after which the screw is tightened, whereby the fan is firmly attached to the shaft, and the clamp is effectively connected with the shaft and prevented from disengaging therefronnowing to the interlocking action of the lips J with the shoulder or head B on said shaft, it being also noticed that when the machine is running power is imparted to the fan, the eftect of which is evident.
WVhen the screw is properly rotated, the clamp may be removed from the head and the fan from the shaft without in any manner alieeting the nature of the machine or changing the operation thereof.
If desired, the point of the screw G maybe passed through the neck of the fan, tightening the end of the shaft, in which case an opening is made in said neck in which to receive the screw, whose pointwill bear partly against the neck, forcing the latter firmly against the end of the shaft.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. In a fan attachinent,a shaft with a shoulder on one end thereof, a fan with a hub on said end, a clamp having lips engaging with said shoulder, and a screw on said clamp bearing against said hub.
2. A fan adapted to be connected with a movable member of a sewing or other machine and a clamp therefor consisting of a bar with LEONIDE EMMA FISHER.
