Be it known that I, LENA JOHNSON, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Key lVest,

in the county of Monroe and State of Florida, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to-which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in invalid-chairs of that general class known as vaginal enema chairs, and has for its object the production of a simple, durable, and eficient device designed for the comfort of an invalid aiiiicted with uterine disorders.

To the accomplishment of this object my invention consists in providing a chair of the character described with a removable seat, to which is secured a receptacle designed to carry off liquid administered to the patient by injection, and in the construction of the chair-body designed to be adjusted to suit the comfort of the patient and provided with means for convenient-ly supporting a Waterbag or the like in position for use.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my device in use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the device folded and showing the Water-bag-supporting standard removed. Y

Referring to thenumerals in the drawings, 1 indicates the frame of the chair, provided with legs 2, as usual, and having side pieces extending from the vseat 3 to a suitable distance from the ends of the legs, one of the side pieces being hinged, as at 5, for a purpose hereinafter made apparent.

6 indicates an aperture in the seat 3, preferably shaped as illustrated.

7 indicates a detachable seat, preferably made of metal and provided with a substantially semicircular inlet-aperture 8, 'surrounded by a series of minute apertures 9, grouped 'in substantially semicircular form around the inlet-aperture.

10 indicates a semifunnel-shaped receptacle secured to the under side of the seat 7 and extending therebelow, provided wit-h a spout 11, depending from its bottom.

It will be observed that the upper end of the receptacle is designed to iit closely within the aperture 6 in the permanent seat and that it is designed to be held against casual displacement without the necessity for special securing mechanism.

Located at a suitable point, preferably at one of the four corners of the chair, I provide a detachable Water-bag-supporting standard 12, adapted to fit loops 13, carried by one of the legs 2, and supporting at its upper end a series of hooks 14, upon which may be suspended a Water-bag 15.

16 indicates the tube extending from the water-pipe to the patient and provided with the usual nozzle. (Not illustrated.)

17 indicates a suitable receptacle located underneath the chair, for the ready removal of which the swinging side piece referred to is provided.'

It will be apparent that the organization of elements illustrated and described constitutes an operative whole and that in some instances such a device may be eiicacious. In order, however, to provide for the greater comfort of the patient, I provide a hinged foot-rest 17', hinged, preferably, at the front edge of the seat and provided with pivoted legs 18 and with a suitable cushion 19, asillustrated also a hinged back 20, provided with segmental racks 21 and designed to engage pins 22, conveniently located upon the chair.

When the device is not in use, it is simply necessary to kremove the bag-standard and fold the foot-rest and back, as vindicated in the drawings, thereby facilitating the storing of the device by the reduction of its bulk to a minimum. v

It Will appear that in operation, the back and foot-rest having been properly adjusted and the detachable seat and receptacle having been placed in position, an injection may be administered to the patient without the objectionable splashing or waste usually incident to such operation, the water flowing through the aperture S and through the spout 11 in to the receptacle located beneath the chair, and the minute apertures 9 permitting the escape of any liquid Which might otherwise remain upon the seat and inconvenience the patient.

In order to further increase the comfort of a person sitting upon the chair,the seat may IOO be out away, as illustrated at 23, in order that the detachable seat 7 may be flushed therewith.

I do not desire to limit myself to the details of construction herein shown and described, but reserve to myself the right to change, modify, or vary them at will Within the scope of my invention.

l. In a device of the character described, the combination with a chair having an apertured seat, of a detachable seat provided with an aperture and with a serios of minute apertures surrounding the sani e,- a receptacle attached to the detachable seat and provided with a depending spout,substrantially as specified.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a chair provided with an aperture in its seat, of a detachable seat provided with a comparatively small substantially semicircular aperture, and a series of minute apertures surrounding the same and arranged in substantially semiciroular form and a semifunnel-shaped receptacle secured to the under side of the detachable seat and provided with a depending spout, sub* stantially as specified.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination With a chair provided with a seat having an aperture therein, of a removable seat flush with the surface of the first-named seat and provided with a semicircular aperture surrounded by a series of minute apertures arranged in substantially semicircular form, a semifunnel-shaped re'-v ceptacle depending below the detachable seat and provided with a spout, andahinged side designed to facilitate the displacing or replacing o'f a receptacle beneath the spout, substantially as specified.

4. In a device of the character described, the combination with a chair, an apertured seat, a folding back and a folding foot-rest, of a detachable apertured seat designed to rest on the first-named seat and provided With a depending receptacle, and a spout depending from said receptacle, substantially as specified.
