WALTER H. W'ESTONv AND GRACE M. G. WESTON, OF WINTHROP, MASSA- CHUSETTS, ASSIGNORS TO SAID GRACE M. G. WESTON.
ATTACHMENT FOR CHAMBER VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 588,304, dated August 1'7, 1897.
Application led February 2, 1897. Serial No. 621,625. (No model.)
the following is a speciication.
This is an improved device constructed to be placed and held upon an ordinaryV cham-- ber vessel in such a manner that it cannot slip ofi", provided with a back which is arranged to fold over forward and down to the iioor, and furnished with a soft and easyseat. It is intended for the use of both children and adults, prevents the person from coming into contact with the vessel, and is adapted to occupy but little space when it is removed from its position.
The invention consists of certain novel constructions andarrangements of parts fully described below and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of our improved device in position on a chamber vessel, broken lines showing the position of the back when swung down. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section taken on line X, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the base, taken on line Y, Fig. 2, with'the air-cushion seat removed and the position of the upper portion of the vessel indicated by broken lines.

A represents an ordinary chamber vessel.
B is a ring-shaped base, preferablyconstructed of wood, so as to minimize the danger of This base is provided breaking the vessel. with a downwardly-projecting flange B', concentric with the outer surface of the base and adapted to set within and nearly or quite 4tlt.
person using the device. The base B is similarly formed at B", and the flange B', which is formed on a true circle, is cut away at the front portion, as `shown Iat b'. The base is laid on the top of the vessel, as shown,`and is effectually prevented from slipping off by the flange. The air-cushion furnishes a soft and comfortable seat, and being composed of an ini-lated rubber tube is perfectly cleanly. -A back is furnished especially for children andinvalids, such back consisting of the wire D, whose opposite ends are hinged at d to the opposite sides of the base B, such wire being curved up into the shape shown, a curved connecting-wire D', extending around the rear side of the base and connecting the lower ends of the portion D, and an upright supporting-wire E, secured at its upper end to the central and highest portion of the wire D and-formed at-its lower end into a hook E', which extends under and around the wire D', said hook being bent slightly inward at E", and thus resting on the wire D' and being thereby prevented from slipping off and down. In practice the parts D and D' may be a single wire having its ends welded togetherjat a convenient point and attened at the pivotal portions, as shown in Fig. l. When the device is not in use, it can remain -in position'on the vesselrand the back be swung down into the position shown in Fig. 1, and as theV back is of itself not higher than an ordinary vessel the whole can, when the back is swung down, be slid away-as under abed, for instance.
In order to prevent the attachment from being tipped backward by the user leaning too heavily against the back, a hook or clamp I-I is pivotally secured at H' to the under side of the frontportio'n of the base D, such hook being adapted to be swung horizontally under the liange A' of the vessel, as shown, after the device has been placed in position.
The device is light, easily transported, applicable to any ordinary chamber vessel, and suitably strong for the purpose.
I-Iaving thus fully described our invention, y
