Description

(No Model.) B. C. MORSE.
y PULLEY COVERING. No. 588,232. Patented Aug. 17, 1897.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BURTON C. MORSE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE MORSE r SUPPLY COMPANY.
PU LLEY-COVERING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,232, dated August 17', 1897. A li ti fil d May 15, 1896. Serial No. 591,651. (No specimens.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BURTON G. MORSE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pulley-Covering; and I declare the following to be a full, clear,,and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
Myinvention has for its object the production of a pulley-covering which is applied to the face of the pulley while in a liquid form and, hardening thereon, forms an effective means to prevent the slipping of the belt.
In the drawing the figure is a sectional View of a pulley, showing my covering thereon.
In carrying out the invention, A represents the pulley, and 15 my improved covering. This covering is cogn posed of a mixture of glue together with pumice-stone. In order to prevent the mixture from spoiling and molding, I add a quantity of vinegar or acetic acid and also a small quantity of nitric acid. If desirable, a suflicient amount of any anilin coloring may be added.
The proportions which I have heretofore used are as follows: For one gallon of the mixture, vinegar or acetic acid, one-half gallon; g1 ue,'two pounds; pumice-stone, four pounds; nitric acid, two and three-fourths drams; but these proportions may of course be varied somewhat.
When the compound is thoroughly mixed, and if necessary a small quantity of water is added to thin it, it is applied to the working surface of the pulley until the latter has a covering perhaps one-eighth to one-sixteenth of an inchin thickness. When dry, the pulley is ready for use with a covering that has 'no joints and is efiective in preventing the belt from slipping.
What I claim is A pulley-covering comprising glue, pumicestone, and acid thoroughly mixed and combined, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
BURTON C. ll/IORSE.
