U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DELBERT P. ISHAM, OF BRECKSVILLE, OHIO.
EAVES-TROUGH HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,151, dated August 17, 1897. Application filed April 28, 1897. Serial No. 634,291. (No model.)
To (all whont it 727/6117} concern:
Be it known that I, DELBERT P. ISHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brecksville, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Eaves-Trough Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in eaves-trough hangers.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of eaves-trough hangers and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient device for locking an eavestrongh in a hanger and for enabling the same to be readily removed, when desired.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of partshereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an eaves-trough hanger constructed in accordance with this invention, showing the trough in section. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the hanger.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of thedrawings. p
l designates an eaves-trough hanger constructed of a single piece of metal and consisting of a lower curved portion 2, receiving and conforming to the configuration of an eaves-trough 3, and a supporting bar or shank 4, which is connected with the inner end of the lower curved portion 2 by a substantially horizontally-disposed arm 5. The supporting-bar 4, which is provided with perforations to receive fastening devices for securing the hanger to a roof is bent at any desired angle to suit the inclination of the same, and the horizontal arm 5 is bent upward slightly adjacent to the lower curved portion 2 to prevent water dripping down the supporting-bar from flowing over the inner edge of the eavestrough.
The outer end of the lower curved portion 2 is extended horizontally to provide a lip G, which is arranged beneath the bead 7 at the outer edge of the eaves-trough and which is provided with a perforation to receive the outer end of a locking-wire 8.
The locking wire or rod 8, which is provided at its inner terminus with an eye 9, is hinged to the hanger at the angle formed by the lower portion of the supporting-bar at and the arm 5, the eye 9 being linked into an eye 10, which extends from the lower end of the supporting-bar 4 and which is constructed of wire. The loop or eye 10 is constructed of a single piece of wire doubled to form an eye and having the terminals passed through a perforation of the supporting-bar at and spread and bent against the inner face of the same.
The outer portion of the locking wire or rod is provided with a hook-shaped bend 11, which embraces the upper portion of the bead of the trough, and the end of the hook-shaped bend 11 is passed through the perforation 7 of the lip 6, and the parts are locked by bending the locking wire or rod against the lower face of the lip. When it is desired to remove the eaves-trough, the angularly-bent outer end of the locking wire or rod can be readily straightened and Withdrawn from the perforation 7 of the lip, thereby releasing the trough and permitting its removal.
It will be seen that the eaves-trough hanger is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction and that it is adapted to hold securely an eaves-trough and is capable of permitting the same to be quickly removed without detaching it from a roof.
What I claim is- The combination of a hanger comprising a lower curved portion adapted to receive an eaves-trough, and provided at its outer end with a horizontal lip having a perforation and located beneath the bead of an eavestrough, and a supporting-bar provided at its lower end with a horizontal arm extending to the inner end of the lower curved portion, an eye arranged at the lower end of the supporting-bar, and a locking-wire provided at its inner end with an eye linked into the said eye and hinging the locking wire to the hanger, said locking-wire being provided at its outer portion with a hook-shaped bend arranged to receive and engage the bead of a trough, and having its terminal passed through the perforation of the lip and adapted to be bent up against the same, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in r the presence of two witnesses.
DELBERT 1. ISHAM.
