S. A. ADDIS. STORM DOOR AND SCREEN GOMBINED.
Patented Aug. 3
WITNESSES N0, WASHINGTON n UNITED STAT S PATENT OFFICE.
SARAH A. A-DDIS, OF NEODESHA, KANSAS.
STORM-DOOR AND SCREEN COMBINED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,382, dated August 3, 1897.
Application filed Augu t 17, 1896. Serial No. 602,934. (No model.)
To all whom it'nmy concern.-
Be it known that I, SARAH A. ADDIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Neodesha, in the county of Wilson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Storm-Door and Screen Combined; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combined screen and storm door.
Itconsists of a door formed with two sliding panels in the center thereof, so these may be slid back and behind the outer sections of the door. The central portion thus opened is provided with a screen. The door may thus be used either as a closed door or ascreendoor.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my door. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear View.
The door is formed in four sections or'panels. These panels are approximately equal in width. The outer panels 2 2 are solid or fixed. The inner panels 1 1 slide between the outer panels and iron bars 3 3. These bars are fastened at the upper and lower ends of the door. Theyleave enough space between the fixed panels 2 2 and themselves to accommodate the movable panels. A screen of woven wire or other suitable material is secured to the rear side of the door-frame. The door may thus be used as a screen-door, or by sliding out the panels 1 1 the door is made solid. The door may thus be used as a substitute for an ordinary door, making it unnecessary to have an entirelyseparate screen-door. By sliding the panels back and uncovering the central portion it can be made at will a screendoor.
On the rear face of each of the sliding panels 1 is a projection or bolt 4, which extends through an opening or slot 5 in the screen and through an opening or slot 6 in a transverse bar 7 on the door-frame. This bolt or projection has means for holding the sliding panels stationary at any point, consisting, preferably, of aknob screw-threaded on said bolt and abutting against the said transverse bar.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A combination screen and door frame consisting of a door having a door-frame covered on its inner face by a screen, two upright stationary panels on the outside of said doorframe and two movable panels situated between said stationary outside panels and said screen and adapted to close the opening between the inner edges of said stationary panels.
2. A combination storm and screen door frame covered on the inside with a screen, stationary panels on the outside of said door, a transverse bar secured between said stationary panels and said screen, a slot in said bar and in said screen, and movable panels situated between said stationary panels and said screen and provided with knobs extending through the transverse slots in said bar and screen.
3. A combination storm and screen door frame covered on the inside with a screen, stationary panels on the outside of said door, a transverse bar secured between said stationary panels and said screen, a slot in said bar and in said screen, and movable panels situated between said stationary panels and said screen and provided with knobs extending through the transverse slots in said bar and screen, said knobs being provided with set-screws.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing' witnesses.
