Description

UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
-WILLIAM C. STUOKEL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STEAM-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,879, dated July 20, 1897. Application filed November 30,1896. Serial No. 613,914. (No model.)
Z22 (@ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM C. STUCKEL,
of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented anew and Improved Steam-Boiler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved steam-boiler arranged to evenly and quickly distribute the heat of the burning fuel to all parts of the water to insure a quick generation of steam.
The invention consists of a series of heatdistributing rods extending through .the wa- (er-compartment in to the heat-in gchamber to take up heat and distribute the same to the water surrounding the rods.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The steam-boiler shown is provided with the usual shell A, a fire-box 13, connected by a smoke-fine C With a hood D, carrying a stack E for theescape of the smoke and gases. A
series of distributingrods F, of copper, brass, or other metal, extend through the water and steam compartment and through the crownsheet H and the head I to be heated at their projecting ends by the heat emanating from the burning fuel in the boiler, so that the heat is distributed by the rods F to the water surrounding the rods in the Water and steam compartment G to insure a quick generation of steam.
By reference to the drawings it will be seen that a large number of such rods F are employed, and consequently the heat carried by the rods from the fire-box B and the hood D into the Water-compartment to be taken up by the water and steam insures a uniform heating of the Water in the boiler and a consequent proper generation of steam.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A boiler having an upright shell with a stack centrally coincident thereto, a fire-box at the lower part of the shell, a smoke-flue running centrally through the shell from the crown-sheet of the fire-box to the upper portion of the shell, a head within the upper portion of the shell and through which the upper end of the smoke-flue passes, the smokeflue being approximately alined with the stack, and a series of distributing-rods running vertically parallel with the smoke-flue and passing through the crown-sheet and through the head, the distributingrods completely surrounding the smoke-flue and run nin g continuously through the water-space of the boiler, substantially as described.
