R. H. FISHBAUGH.
DOOR SHADE.
Patented July 20, 1897.
VLef-I/ .a wif/VES UNITEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUFUS ll. FISIIBAUGII, OF MARKLE, INDIANA.
DOOR-SHADE..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,656, dated July 20, 1897.
Application led April 5, 1897. Serial No. 630,829. (No model.)
To all whom. t may @0n/cern:
Be it known that l, RUFUs H. FIsHBnUoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Markle, in the county of lVells and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Shades; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to improve Inents in doors for buildings having a glass front or panel; and it consist-s in the novel construction and arrangement of a rollershade combined with wedge-stops for holding the shade at different points, all as will be hereinafter fully described.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure l represents a front view of a door having a glass panel, showing my device applied thereto; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the saine.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates an ordinary door for buildings, which is provided with a window or glass panel B, set within the opening C, made in the door. Surrounding this opening in the door is a rabbet a. The upper and lower portions thereof, as at b, are provided with a series of stops e, which are beveled on their outer face for a purpose presently eX- plained. On the inner face of this door and surrounding the opening is a bead d. The two vertical strips d d extend over the rabbet of the opening and `form side recesses 7c 7e for the shade.
D indicates the shade, and E is the shaderoller, the upper end of which is provided with a spring f, one end of which is iixed to the roller, while the opposite end is secured to a plate g, having a perforation forming a bearing for the upper end of the roller. At
the lower end of this roller the saine has its bearing in a plate 77., and the roller stands in a vertical position. At the opposite or free end of this shade is a rod F, the upper and lower ends i' t' of which project above and below the shade and are slightly beveled to engage the beveled face of the blocks aforesaid for holding the shade in a drawn position. It will thus be observed that the rod and roller stand in a vertical position, and when the shade is wound upon the roller the same is hid from view and in the recess k.
In drawing the shade the operator grasps the rod F and forces it to the left-hand side of the window, unwinding the shade from the roller, and when the desired upper and lower blocks are reached the rod is forced in and in contact with said blocks, the beveled surfaces of the blocks and rod engaging one another and kept so engaged by the resistance of the spring on the roller, the shade being kept taut, thus preventing accidental displacement of said rod.
When the shade is drawn out its full length and fastened by the block near the recess k, the rod is then hidden from View, being in said recess, thereb7 showing the shade only, obstructing the view through the glass or window of the door, while the post and roller are out of sight.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the stops having the beveled surfaces, ithe rod provided with the beveled upper and lower ends and the shade said rod secured to said shade for operation as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RUFUS 1l. FISIIBAUGH. lVitnesses GEORG-E III. QUICK, MARTIN L. KEPLINGER.
