PATENT ELMER G. LEECI-l AND CHARLES A. CROWL, OF ABERDEEN, SOUTH DAKOTA.
DISPLAY-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,215, dated June 29, 1897. Application filed October 9, 1896. Serial No. 608,396. (No model.)
To (1% whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ELMER G. LEECH and CHARLES A. ORowL, citizens of the United States, residing at Aberdeen, in the county of Brown and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel construction in a rotary display-stand for photographs, cards, and the like; and it consists in the features of construction and the combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of our invention with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the cover of the case removed. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed views.
In said drawings, 1 indicates the case, having top and bottom pieces 2 and 3, front piece 4, which is provided with an aperture through which the articles displayed can be seen, and a hinged back piece 5, which can be opened to place the photographs or cards in position. Mounted in bearings in the top and bottom pieces 2 and 3 is a shaft 6, provided at its lower end witha beveled gear 7, that intermeshes with the beveled gear 8 on the horizontal shaft 9, that extends through the side of the box and is provided with a knob 10 for turning the same. The shaft 6 is provided near its upper and lower ends with the disks or wheels 11 and 12. A plurality of blocks 13 are supported by said disks, said blocks being preferably triangular in cross-sections and provided at their upper and lower ends with trunnions 14, upon which the blocks turn. The upper trunnion 14 extends through the upper disk 11 and is flat-sided, to be engaged by springs 15, that serve to hold the block against accidental rotation, but permit it to be moved when sufficient power is applied thereto. As before pointed out, these blocks are three-sided, and each of the sides is provided with marginal flanges 16, adapted to receive a photograph or card and hold it in place.
The case is preferably square, and at each corner thereof is an inwardlyprojecting spring-finger 17, having a downwardly-projecting end portion 18, that is located in the path of the blocks, so that as the blocks pass these fingers during the rotation of the disks they will be partially turned by contact with the fingers. The spring-fingers are also pro vided with inwardly-projecting end portions 19, that are located in the path of the projections 20 on the upper face of the disk, said projections 20 being situated between the pivots of the blocks. The relative location and arrangement of the parts are such that as the disks rotate and bring the block, in contact with the portion 18 of the spring-finger said block will be turned one-third of a revolution on its pivot. While it is passing this spring-finger and when it has completed one-third of a revolution the projection 20 on the disk will engage the inwardly-projecting portion of the spring-finger and lift the same so that it is out of the path of the block.
It will, be seen from the foregoing description that the faces of the blocks stand at right angles to the radius of the Wheel when it is passing by the aperture in the front piece of the case and that for every revolution of the disks the blocks will be turned one and one-third revolution, so that they present a different side at each revolution. By the arrangement of turning the blocks at the corners of the case we are enabled to economize space and at the same time to make an economical device.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with a case having a rotatable shaft carrying disks, of a plurality of blocks rotatably mounted upon said disks and fingers mounted upon the case and located in the path of said blocks, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a case having a rotatable shaft carrying disks, of blocks rotatably mounted upon said disks, springs upon one of said disks bearing against the specification in the presence of two subscribend portion of the block-trunnions to prevent in g Witnesses.
accidental rotation thereof, spring-fingers w 1 upon the case located in the path of said blocks and projecting upon one of said disks to engage and move said spring-fingers, sub- \Vitnesses: stantially as described. CHAS. A. HOWARD,
In testimony whereof we have signed this CHAS. \V. IIERMANCE.
