Description
0.0.HBGGBM- PNEUMATI STRAW STAGKER.
@ I Patented June 8 (No Model.)
A... Ml Y UNITED STATES CHARLES O. I'IEGGEM, OF MASSILLON, OI'IIO.
PNEUNiATlC STRAW-STACKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584, 160, dated June 8, 189'?.
Application iiled Apri] 27, 1896. Serial No. 589,193. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.:
Beit known that iI, GnnnLns O. Hnconii, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of `Massillon, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pneumatic Straw-Smokers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this speciiication.
The invention relates to pneumatic strawstackers, and more particularly to the dis charger and the means Afor actuating the fan thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and cornparatively inexpensive of production.
lVith this object in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination ot parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed;
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of the lower portion of a frame of a threshing-machine, illustrating in section my improved discharger. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the discharger, taken at right angles to Fig. l.
In the drawings, A designates a portion of the rear frame of a threshing-machine,which may be of any of the well-known or approved forms, and as it in itself forms no part of my invention a further description of the same is not deemed necessary.
B denotes the fan-casing, which also may be of any desired construction, but which is shown in the present instance as constructed with an inlet-opening b in its top, a coincident opening i1' in its bottom, and an opening in? at its rear end, from which extends a conveying-pipe b3, which is adapted to convey the straw and chaff to the desired place of deposit. The parts thus far described are the same in construction as disclosed in. Patent No. 556,776, granted March 24, 1896.
C denotes the fairshaft, and I) the driveshaft, provided with meshing gears (not shown) inclosed within a gear-casing F.
the free end of the drive-shaft D is secured a drive-pulley d', which may be connected by a belt with any of the rotating parts of the thresher, and secured to the upper end of the fan-shaft is a hub C. ing arms, each of which has a T-shaped groove c', in which the T-shaped arms c2 of the fan-blades c3 are secured. The fan-blades are lirmly riveted to the free ends of these arms.
E denotes a plate which rotates with the fan-shaft and extends over the opening in the bottom of the fan-casing B to serve to prevent the straw and chaff failing directly downward between the arms of the hub and the bottom oi' the fan-casing, whereby it would be practically unexposed to the airblast.
In operation as the stra-w and chaff are delivered to the fan-casing through its inletopening b it will' fall upon the deiiector-plate E and will be centrifugally thrown outward in the path of the blades of the fan, which will blow it out through the discharge-pipe in the usual manner. The gearing is entirely closed and is protected from the chaff and the like, thus insuring the perfect working of the parts.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a discharger for pneumatic straw-stackers, the combination with a fan-chamber having an inlet-opening and a discharge-opening and a fan-shaft projecting through the bottom of said chamber, of a hub secured to the upper end of the fan-shaft, and provided with radiating arms having longitudinally T shaped grooves, fan-blades having fan-arms which are T-shaped in cross-section and are secured in the grooves of the hub-arms, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of April, A. D. 1896.
CHARLES O. IIEGGEM.
