F. M. MCMEEKIN, OFMORRISQNS MILLS, FLORIDA.
ilviPRoi/EMENT IN Prows.`
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,119, dated September 18, 1866. i
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, F. IVI. MCMEEKIN, of Morrisons Mills, in the county of Alachua and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, t'ormin g part ot' this specification, in Whichi Figure l is a side View of my invention; Fig. 2, a side View ot' the lower part of the same with a differentlaud-side attached ,F ig.' 3, a rear View of Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate A like parts.
This invention relates to a new and improved plow 5 and it consists in a novel construction of the same, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby a very strongl and durable plow is obtained-one which may be manufactured at a reasonabie cost, and be capable of having different molds attachechas ,circumstances may require.
A represents the beam of the plow, and B the handles, attached to it in the usual or any proper way.
C represents the standard, composed of a single metal bar, doubled, and having its arms or sides spread or bent, so as to form a V, one arm, a, having a vertical position, and the other arm, a', an inclined position, with their upper ends secured to the beam A. (See Fig. l.)
The lower part of the standard is a loop. b, formed by the doubling ot' the bar, and this loop portion has an inclined position, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the loop being inclined backward from its lower end upward.
D, Figs. l and 3, is the land-side, composed of ahorizontal part, c, and an inclined part. d, the latter extending over the front side of the loop b, and having an oblong slot, e, made in it for a bolt, E, to pass through, which bolt also passes through the loop b.
The horizontal part c of the land-side is at the left side of the loop b, as shown in Fig. 3, and the oblong slot e admits of the land-side being adjusted higher or lower, as may be desired.
F represents the mold-board, through which the bolt E passes, said bolt securing the moldboard and land-side to the loop, and in consequence of having the land-side D adjustable, as described, admits of mold-boards of dit ferent sizes being applied to the standard, as the land-side can be raised or lowered, so that itwill be in line with the front or point ofthe mold-board, whether the latter be long or short, and the bolt E may also be adjusted higher or lowerin the loop b, a-s circumstances may require. l
When amadj ustable land-side is not required, a land-side, D', may be permanently bolted to the side of the loop b, as shown in Fig. 2.
By having the standard C constructed of a single bar bent as shown, a strong and durable standard is obtained, and one which may be constructedrat a reasonable cost, with a loop for the bolt to pass through to admit of the adjustment of the bolt higher or lower, as may be desired.
nHavin g thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The standard C, constructed of a sin glemctal bar, doubled and bent, so as to have two diverging arms, a a', and an inclined loop, b, in combination with the land-side and moldboard, all arranged to form a new an d improved plow, as set forth.
The above specicaiion ot' my invention signed by me this 9th day ot' June, 1866.
F. M.' MCMEEKIN.
