Be it known that I, OSWALD RAUNER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Nuremberg, Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Trumpets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a trumpet for children; and the object of the invention is to dispense with the soldering or equivalent permanent attachment of the stems of the keys to the valves by providing a suitable means of connection which always remains established, so that as long as the instrument lasts the valves can be operated, as there is no fixed connection to become broken.

To this end my invention consists of a childs trumpet which comprises a reed-plate provided with a series of openings and reeds and a series of valves arranged to open and close said openings, said valves being slitted at their free ends so as to receive the grooved or reduced inner ends of the stems of the keys, which are guided in suitable openings in the reed-plate.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a childs trumpet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, at right angles to the sectioned parts in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-section of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of my improved childs trumpet, which is provided with a suitable handle A and diametrically opposite to said handle with a series of guide-holes a, in which are guided the stems g of the keys 72-.

Arranged longitudinally and centrally within the body of the trumpet is a reed-plate b, suitably supported therein and provided with a suitable number of openings, adjacent to which on one side of the reed-plate are arranged the usual reeds or spring sounding tongues B. At the opposite side of the reedplate I) and controlling the admission of air through the air-openings are arranged a num ber of valves 0, which are each fixed at one end to the reed-plate and at their free ends are provided with slits d, said valves being kept closed by means of suitable springs Instead of soldering the valves 0 to the stems g of the keys the latter are provided at their inner ends with reduced portions forming annular grooves f, with which the slitted portions of the valves engage. To connect a key with its corresponding valve, the key is inserted so that its grooved stem presses the valve 0 backward until the slit in said valve receives the grooved portion of said stem.

In order to simplify the playing of the trumpet, each key h is differently colored from the other and a corresponding color produced on the notation of the piece of music which is to be played, so that a child on simply pressing on a key having a color corresponding with a certain note or character on the sheet of music can by blowing on the trumpet produce a tone which corresponds with that indicated by such note.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a childs trumpet, a reed-plate provided with reed-openings and reeds, keys having stems guided in said reed-plate, springactuated valves for closing the reed-openings, and means for detachably and loosely connecting the free ends of the valves with the stems of the keys, substantially as set forth.

2. In a childs trumpet, a reed-plate provided with reed-openings and reeds, keys provided with stems guided in said reedplate, said stems being provided with grooved inner ends, and spring-actuated valves fixed to the reed-plate and extending over the reedopenings, said valves having their free ends slitted and engaging with the grooved ends of said stems, substantially as set forth.
