Description

T. RAMS.
Plow- Point Paterited Sept. 11.1866.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
TILLMAN RAMS, OF KEOKUK, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PI 'OWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,968, dated September 1]., 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILLMAN RAMS, of Keokuk, county of Lee, State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that thefollowin g is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. v
The nature of my invention consists in providing a socket in the point of a plow, for the purpose of admitting the end of the shoe or bar upon the lower edge of the land-side, for the purpose of fastening and seeurin g the same to each other.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bottom or under side of the point. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the point, showing the socket in dotted lines.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
A represents the share of my improved plow, which may be made of steel-plate or castiron, and of ordinary or common construction, except it is provided with a socket, 0, near the point, for the purpose of receiving the end of the bar D, which is secured in its position by means of a suitable number of bolts to the land-side. B is the mold-board, which is also made of steel or iron, and of common form. E is a shoulder made upon the bar-D, which fits and presses against the land-side S, prevents it from slipping or moving back of the mold-board and share when in operation. 0 is a socket made near the point of the share A, for the purpose (as before stated) ot' admitting the end of the bar which is secured to the land-side S.
It will be understood that this socket O is made and located on the inside of the small portion of the land-side connected to the share and in which fits the bar of the land-side, which is secured thereto by screwbolts, making it one of the strongest, simple, and durable plows now in use.
It is well known that various means and methods have been devised and employed for the purpose of uniting the landside with the share, but have in most instances proved defective and unsatisfactory, on account of either becoming loose or breaking but by my invention the objections are fully removed, for the reason it is not liable to become loose or to break, which renders it one of the most desirable and economical plows now in use.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The share A, provided with the socket O, in combination with the bar D, secured to the land-side S, when constructed as and for the purposes and substantially as described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 18th day of June, 1866.
TILLMAN RAMS.
