FAN ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,846, dated March 16, 1897.

, To all whom it may concern.-
- to make and use the same, reference being vtion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
- The invention relates generally to sewingmachine attachments, and has for its special object to gently fan the operator while working on the machine.

In the drawings, A represents a metallic ring made of spring metal with the two ends held together by 'aspiral spring. may be reduced, so as to slide into a socket .yof the other, while on thereduced end is One end placed a spiral spring fastened at its ends to the shoulders. By this construction the ring A may be sprung open and easily placed on- I I the small fly-wheel B, so that the concave plates 0 may clamp'its perimeter.
D are the fan-blades, made broad at the outer end and tapering toward the inner end, so as to fit snugly into the taperingguide ways 0 c of the plates 0. The fan-blades and their guideways are, not in the same plane with the ring or in' one parallel therewith, but in one at an angle thereto, preferably at an angle of about forty-five degrees.
The guideways c c are attached rigidly to or made integral with the plates 0, while the latter are made fast atone end' to the ring.
I prefer to use four blades, butdo not confine'myself to any particular number.
As the machine is worked the fans are ro-* tated,so as to create a draft, which is a great and provided with guideways arranged to receive fan-blades as and for the purpose specified.
