Description
(No Model.) J. E. DELL.
. ICE ELBVATR. No. 578,600. Patented Mar. 9, 1897.
A #aven/ Of UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN E. DELL, OF PAULDING, OHIO.
ICE-ELEVATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent N0.v 578,600, dated March 9, 1897.
Application filed July 14, 1896. Serial No. 599,136. (No model.)
I Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
My invention relates to improvements in an elevator which, While it may be used for any purpose for which it Would operate, is specially constructed for elevating cakes or blocks of ice and depositing them in ref ri gerators or cold-storage receptacles; and the object of my invention is the provision of a portable elevator which Will be easy to operate, and which will quickly elevate and deliver or deposit the blocks of ice, and which will be of the simplest, cheapest, and most durable construction and thus produce a thoroughly practical elevator.
The invention consists of an ice-elevator embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved elevator. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view of the elevator With the parts in the position they assume When delivering the block of ice, and Fig. 3 represents a similar view with the parts in the position they occupy when the block of ice is about to be delivered.
In the drawings the letterA designates the base of my elevator, from Which rise the vertical standards B, having on the inner faces the grooves, channels, orguideways O, and the top connecting or cross piece D, the Whole structure forming a strong and durable frame- Work, but easily transported from place to place when desired. Fitting in the guideways is the open rectangular traveling frame E, provided at one side with the support F, arranged at a right angle to the frame and braced by means of the braces or stay-rods G. Also mounted in the rectangular traveling frame upon the rod or cross-piece I-I is the tilting delivering-platform J, on each side of which, mounted in brackets K,are the grooved guide-pulleys L, over Which pass the cords M, which are connected at their upper ends to the frame at N. From thence they pass down around the said pulleys L, then up over the guide-pulleys O, and thence the cords pass down around the Windlass or drum P, having at one end the crank Q, adjacent thereto, the ratchet-Wheel R, With which engages the pawl S.
To the side of the frame in bracketsT is mounted the rod or shaft U, upon Which is su pported the delivering or guiding platform V, which is adapted to be sustained in the proper inclined position by means of the retaining-rod WV, one end of Which is pivoted to the frame, and the other end is constructed to engage the deliverin,1r-platform. In the cross-piece or top of the frame is mounted the slotted adj ustable-stop device X, the purpose of Which is to abut against the traveling frame when it has ascended to the proper height in order that the tilting platform may elevate to discharge the ice.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the operation of my elevator will be readily understood, and I Will simply state that When it is desired to use the elevator the guiding-platform is placed to guide the ice to the receptacle, and the block of ice is elevated upon the traveling frame, and When the proper ascent is reached the platform on which the ice is placed tilts upward to the position assumed in Fig. 2, and the ice slides from the platforms to the proper receiving-receptacle or refrigerator, the rotation of the drum through the medium of the cords, pulleys, and connections affecting the desired result.
It is evident that I provide an elevator of simple, durable, and inexpensive construction which can be used for various purposes and which is thoroughly efficient and practical.
I claimv In an elevator, the combination of the fram e,
the pivoted delivery-platform on one side of the frame, the iod foi` sustaining the platform when in use, the traveling frame mounted in the main frame, the rigid support carried by theftraveling frame, the tilting platform mounted in the traveling frame, meehanism foi` tilting the platform and moving the frame, andan adjustable stop to limit the
