Description

UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIOE.
LEANDER K. BINGHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED COMPOSITION FOR PRINTERS ROLLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 57,849, dated Scpcniher 11, 1866; antedatcd September 5, 1866.
To' all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEANEER K. BINGHAM, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Composition for Printers Rollers, &c.'; and I do hereby or other articles made from it preserve their softness and elasticity for a long time.
My composition is made of glue, molasses, sirup, honey, or other saccharine matter, acetic or nitric acid, and alum, or sugar of lead, or any other equivalent material or materials which, when combined with glue and molasses, will produce the same result. The proportion in which I mix these ingredients together is about as follows: glue, ten pounds; honey,
molasses, or other saccharine matter, thirtythree pounds; acetic or nitric acid, two ounces; alum or sugar of lead, two ounces.
Melt the glue liy'soa-king in water; add the honey, molasses, or other saccharine matter; dissolve the alum or sugar of lead in the smallest possible quantity of water; add the This invention relates to acorn position which solution to the mixture of glue and molasses, and finally add the requisite quantity of nitric or acetic acid. By increasing or. decreasing the quantity of alum, or eq'ui alent material, more or less hardness can be given to the composition; and by the addition of a suitable acid, such as above mentioned, the compound obtains the property to remain soft and to take up printers ink with facility.
Rollers or other articles made of my composition are not liable to become hard. They can be used for-along time, and the compound is cheap and easily made.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A compound of glue, molasses or other saccharine matter, and alum or other equivalent material, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A compound of glue, molasses or other saccharine matter, and nitric acid or other equivalent material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A compound of glue, molasses or other saccharine matter, alum or other equivalent material, and nitric acid or other equivalent material, substantiallv as and for the purposes specified. 1 LEANDER K. BINGHAM.
