1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON P. SHARP, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSORI.
CABLE-PULLER..
SPECIFIQATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,365, dated March 9, 1897. Appncaion flied July 25,1806. serai No. 000,530. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON P. SHARP, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oable-Pullers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to cable-stretchers.
My object is to provide a simple, cheap, and strong stretcher which will be adapted for quick and easy application and whereby the cable may be more readily stretched.
Having this object in view, my invention consists of a cable-stretcher of novel and improved construction, as will appear more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a view showing my invention in use; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the stretcher; Fig. 3, a detail view of one of the clamp members.
The numerals 1 and 2 designate clamp members which are provided with a longimembers are of the same size, and when together they are adapted to receive the cable in their depression.
My improved fastener is designated by the numeral 4. This fastener is constructed of a single piece of steel rod of suitable size.
The fastener is bent into two parallel portions 5 and 6, which are such a distance apart that when in position they lie against one of the clamping-plates and on Opposite sides of the depression therein. The fasteneris also bent into two arms 7 and 8, which are provided with curved ngers 9 and 10. These arms and fingers t,extend in parallel relation on the opposite side of the clamp from the main portion of the fastener, and one of them is provided with an Veye 11. A link 12 is pivotally held in this eye and adapted to be passed over the other curved iinger, so that the arms are locked together. The numeral 13 designates a hook which has an eye 14, through which the fastener passes, and this hook is located at the free end of the body of the fastener. The numeral 15 designates the cable stretched, and 16 block and tackle which is connected to the hook.
These clamp.
The stretcher is used in the following mam ner: A piece of some thick fabric 17 is Wrapped around the cable to be stretched. The clamps are then placed around the fabric and the fastener applied thereto in such a manner that the arms and fingers will lie against one of the clamp members and the body of the fastener against theother clamp member. tener, the arms and body thereof bind firmly against the clamp members, so that the latter are kept tightly closed together around the fabric and cable. The link is hooked over the fingers to keep them from spreading. When the block-and-tackle mechanism is properly operated, the cable will be stretched,
but without injury to it.
When it is desired to remove the stretcher Owing to the resiliency of the fasfrom the cable, this is accomplished by unhooking the link and removing the fastener. The clamp members will then dropoff.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a cable-stretcher, the combination with separable clamp members, each provided with a longitudinally-extending groove in which the cable is received, of a spring-fastener having portions which bind against the respective clamp members.
2. In a cable-stretcher, the combination with clamp members each provided with a longitudinal groove adapted to receive the cable, said members being separable, of a spring-fastener having a body Which'binds against one of the clamp-sections andsprin garms which bind against the other section.
3. In a cable-stretcher, the combination with clamp members between which the cable is received, of a fastener having a body which binds against one of the clamp memwhich bind against the other clamp member,
and means for locking said members together.
4. In a cable-stretcher, the combination with separable clamp members between which the cable is received, of a fastener constructed of a single piece of spring-rod having a body which binds against one of the clamp members, and arms provided with curved ngers which bind against the other clamp member, and a link connecting the fingers.
IOO
5. In a cable-stretcher, the Combination With separable clamp members each provided with a longitudinally-extending depression e which receives the cable, of a fastener oonstruoted of a single piece of springrod provided With longitudinally-extending parallel portions Which bind against one of 'the Clamp members, and parallel arms provided with curved lingers which bind against the other ing Witnesses.
