UNITED STATES4 PATENT EEICE.
JAMES K. GARSON, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
TROUSERS-HANG ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 578,328, dated March 9, 1897.
Application led April 6, 1 896. Serial No. 586.384. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, JAMES K. GARsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new andA .improve the construction of trousers-hangers and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient one adapted to adjust itself readily to a pair of trousers.
The invention consists in the construction, novel combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a trousers-hanger constructed inaccordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of al hanger. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views illustrating modifications of the hanger.
. Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the gures of the drawings.
1 designates a hanger comprising a substantially horizontally-disposed supportingbar 2, provided at its upper edge with a cen- A trally-arranged eye 3, a double hook 4, ar-
ranged at the rear end of the supporting-bar 2 and adapted to straddle the back of a pair of trousers and to engage the buttons thereof, and a pair of double hook-s 5, arranged at tho front end of the supporting-bar 2, suspended therefrom and connected by a linkbar 6. The pair of double hooks 5 are spaced apart to position them for engaging the buttons at the front of a pair of trousers, which are straddled by the double hooks 5 in a manner similar to the rear hook 4.
Each double hook is preferably constructed of a single piece of Wire or similar material, which is doubled intermediate of its ends, and which has the sides of the doubled portions bent to form parallel hooks. The rear hook has its shanks, which are connected at their upper ends, linked into an eye 7 of the supporting-ba The link-bar 6 is constructed of wire or adapted to adjust itself to any particular cutV or style of trousers.
The hanger is susceptible of modification, as illustrated in Figs. 3, 4, and 5 of the accompanying drawings. The supporting-bar may, as illustrated in Fig. 5, be constructed of a single piece of Wireand bent to form a central eye 9 and end eyes 10, and the linkbar may, as illustrated in Fig. 4l of the drawings, be adjustably connected With the supporting-bar. When the link-bar is adjustably connectedwith the supporting-bar, its centrally-arranged eye is engaged with a zigzagly-bent Wire 1l, forming a series of notches 'for the reception ofthe eye of the link-bar.
In Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawings the supporting-bar is provided at its front end with a pair of eyes 12, in which is arranged a flexible hanger 13, constructed of any suitable material, such as cord or the like, and having depending terminals provided With eyes or hoops, into which are linked double hooks 14. The flexible hanger is adjustable or movable and is adapted to accommodate itself to the size and the cut or style of a pair of trousers.
,The trousers-stretcher comprises a stock or bar 15, provided at its rear end with a pair of stationary upwardly-extending resilient arms 16 and having at its front a pair of adjustable arms 17. The stock or bar 15 is designed to be arranged between the legs of a pair of trousers, and the arms extend up'Ward into the legs and engage the same at the front and back thereof. The rear end of the stock is slightly curved, and the upwardly-extending arms, which are constructed of a single piece of Wire, are slightly curved to conform to a pair of trousers and are provided with Shanks 18, arranged on the lower edge of the bar 15, extending at right angles to the arms 16 and secured to the stock or bar by suitable fastening devices 19. The adjustable arms 17 are shorter than the arms 16 andare IOCy provided With substantially L-shaped shanks adjustably secured to the stock or bar at the lower edge thereof by a set -screw 20 and forming a depending handle 2l.
It Will be seen that the hanger is adapted to be readily applied to a pair of trousers and that When the supporting-bar is employed it is adapted to contain a suitable advertisement or a price-mark or the like, so that the device may be advantageously employed for displaying goods in a show-Window. Furthermore, it will be seen that the hanger is adapted to be suspended from any suitable support and that the trousers-stretcher is adapted to be secured by a cord 23 or the like.
Changes in the form, proportion7 and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
l. In a device of the class described, a trousers-hanger, comprising a substantially horizont-ally-disposed su pporting-bar, a double hook depending from the rear end of the supporting-bar, adapted to straddle the upper edges of a pair of `trousers and capable of engaging the back buttons thereof, a pair of double hooks located at the front of the supporting-bar, capable of straddling the top of a pair of trousers to engage the front buttons thereof and having a swinging movement and means for connecting the front hooks with the front of the supporting-bar and for permitting the hooks an upward-and-downward movement independent of the said bar to enable them to adjust themselves to the style or cut of a pair of trousers, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, a trousers-hanger comprising a substantially horizontally-disposed supporting-bar, a double hook depending from the rear end of the sup- 'porting-bar, a pair of double front hooks located at the front of the supporting-bar, and a substantially horizontally-disposed link-bar carrying the front double hooks at its terminals and movably connected intermediate of its ends With the front of the supporting-bar, whereby the front double hooks are permitted an upWard-and-downward movement independent of the supporting-bar, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In a device of the class described, a hanger comprising a substantially horizontally-disposed supporting-bar, a double hook depending from the rear end thereof, a zigzagly-bent Wire disposed longitudinally of the supporting-bar, located at the front thereof and forming a series of recesses at the lower edge of the same, a pair of double hooks located at the front of the supporting-bar, and a link-bar carrying the front double hook at its terminals and connected intermediate of its ends With a ZigZagly-bent Wire and adapted to engage the recess thereof, said link-bar enabling the front hooks to be adjusted longitudinally of the suppo1"Lin:,r-bar and permitting the same to move upward and downward independently of the supporting-bar, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JAMES K. GARSON.
