Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN JANN, OF NEW WINDSOR, MARYLAND.
IMPROVED BURNING-FLUID.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,727, dated September 4, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN JANN, of New Windsor, in the county of Carroll, State of Maryland, have made a new and useful Improvement in Burning-Fluids 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the nature, construction, and operation of the same sufficientto enable one skilled in the art to which it appertains to use the same.
The improvement consists in the new and improved compound forming a burning-fluid, and which is composed of the following ingredients in about the following proportions: benzine, thirty-three gallons; sweet-oil, half a pint; oil of vitriol, two quarts.
The above ingredients are to be mixed intimately. The benzine becomes of a red brown color, a dark sediment soon settles to the bottom of the vessel, leaving the benzine clear, devoid, to a considerable extent, of its odor and explosive character.
In addition to the additional safety secured by the application of the above-mentioned ingredients to the benzine by the diminution of the explosive tendency, it is found to be less apt to heat the tube, which heat communicated to the oilreservoir is a frequent source of danger.
This is an improvement on my former patent for burning-fluid.
Having described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination of benzine, sweet-oil, and oil of vitriol, in about the proportions and for the purpose described.
JOHN J ANN.
