Beit known that v1, ELMER V. SANTEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Watertown, in the county of J eerson and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Fountain'Shaving-Brush, of which the'following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to shaving-brushes; and it vhas for its object to provide a new and useful brush of this character especially designed for use as a shaving-brush and having simple and eflicient means for forcing the soap or lather preparation into the brush and also means for controlling the passage of the preparation. to the brush.

With these and other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a fountain shaving-brush embodying the construction contemplated by this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the brush, showing the valve in its closed position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the valve in its open position and the brushhead formed integral with the hollow handlebody of the brush. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view of one end of the brushhandle.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a cylindrical hollow or tubular brush-handle -forming a reservoir 2 for holding a shaving cream or other lather preparation designed for use in connection with the brush. The hollow or tubular reservoir-handle 1 is provided at one end with a brush-head 3, preferably having a screw or other separable connection 4 with the body of the handle 1, whereby the brush may be readily removed from the handle 1 to give access to the interior thereof, but, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the brushhead 3 may be formed integral with the handle V1 and the opposite end of the handle closed by a detachably-threaded closing-cap 5, as clearly illustrated in the drawings. The brush-head 3, whether a detachable or integral part of the handle 1, is designed to have fitted therein the brush 6, comprising the usual bunch of bristles and having projected into its inner end portion a feed-tube 7.

The feed-tube 7 is disposed centrally within the brush-head 3 of the handle and .is extended outward from one of the closed ends of the handle so as to communicate with the interior thereof and provide for conducting the preparation from the reservoir into the brush, so that the latter may be kept supplied with the requisite quantity of preparation for shaving. At the inner end of the central feed-tube 7 is formed a valve-seat 8, onto which works a conical valve-plug 9, fitted on the inner end of a screw adjusting-rod 10, arranged longitudinally within the handle 1, and having the outer end loosely extended through a bearing-opening 11 in the end of the handle 1 opposite the head 3. Theouter end of the said screwv adj usting-rod 10 has detachably fitted thereto, by means of a screw or other suitable fastening 12, an exterior rotatable ad justing-cap 13, having a peripheral flange 14, loosely embracing one end of the handle 1, so that the cap 3 will have th'e appearance of forming the closing-cap for one end of the reservoir-handle. The said eXterior fianged cap 13 is provided with a milled peripheral edge 15, so that it may be readily grasped by the fingers to provide for turning the screw-rod 10.

The screw-rod 10 carries thereon at the inner side of one end of the handle an eXteriorlythreaded adjustment-collar 16, adapted to work into and out of the threaded opening 17, formed in a socket-plate 1S, secured in a fixed position to the inner side of the end of the handle opposite the brush-head 3. The fixed socketplate 18, having the threaded opening 17, has formed therein in a plane parallel with said opening 17 an enlarged collarsocket 19 of a greater diameter than the opening 17, so that the collar 16 can freely revolve therein when turned out of the opening 17.

To provide for keeping the shaving cream or preparation in the reservoir under a feeding pressure, a circular piston or plunger plate 20 is employed. This piston or plunger plate 2O snugly iits within the handle and is provided with a central threaded opening 21, which receives therein the screw-rod 10. l

In using the brush the valve 9 is closed onto its seat 8, so as to out off the iiow of the prepa- IOO ration through the tube 7 by turning the cap 13 in a direction for screwing the adjustmentcollar 16 downward within the threaded opening 17 of the socket-plate 18, and when thus closed'onto its seat it is impossible for the valve-plug 9 to become unseated, except by a turning of the collar 16. To unseat the valveplug 9 and open up communication through the tube 7, the cap 13 is turned toward the left or in a direction to unscrew the collar 16 from the opening 17 and carry the collar 16 into the socket 19, within which socket it freely rotates without causing a further elevation of the plug 9. In this manipulation the screw-rod 10 at the same time causes the piston or plunger 2O to descend and force the preparation out through the tube 7, and it will be understood that by a continued turning of the rod 10, with the collar 1G disengaged from the opening 17, additional quantities of lather preparation may be forced into the brush as required by thel user.

Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details ofconstruction maybe resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a fountain shaving-brush, a hollow reservoir-handle carrying a brush at one end and having at such end a feed-tube extending into the brush,a screw adj usting-rod arranged longitudinally within the handle and carrying at its outer end a rotatable adj listing-cap, a valve-plug fitted to the inner end of said rod and working over the inner end of the feed-tube, a piston or plunger plate working within the reservoir-handle and having a central threaded opening receiving the screw adjusting-rod, and means for imparting to the screw-rod a-limited longitudinal movement when the same is turned in either direction, to provide for vthe seating and unseating of the valve, substantially as set forth.

2. In a fountain Ishaving-brush, a hollow reservoir-handle carrying a brush at one end and having at such end a feed-tube for the brush, a screw adjusting-rod arranged longitudinally within the handle and carrying at its inner end a valve-plug working into and over the inner end of the feed-tube, the outer end of said rod loosely extending through one end of the handle, an exterior rotatable cap fitted to the outer projecting end of the screwrod, a piston or plunger plate having a central threaded opening receiving said screwrod, a socket-plate secured in a iixed position to the end of the handle opposite the brush and provided with a threaded openin g and an enlarged collar-socket communicating with said opening and of a greater diameter than the same, and an exteriorly-threaded adjusting-collar fitted on the screw-rod and adapted to work in the threaded opening and the socket of said socket-plate, substantially as set forth.
