TOOL-BAG FOR BICYCLES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,832, dated February 9, 1897. Application filed October 17, 1895- Serial No. 565,924. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, FREDERICK G. BEN- DER, a resident of New York, and ROBERT EMMETT MOGONNELL, a resident of Brooklyn, Kings county, in the Stateof New York, citizens of the United States, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicyole-Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to bags or pouches to be attached to bicycles; and the object thereof is to provide a bag of this character which is simple in construction and adapted to carry the necessary tools to be used upon a bicycle; and with this and other objects in view our invention relates to the construction shown in the accompanying drawings and described in the following specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of our improved bag attached to the frame of a bicycle. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section showing the same open. Fig. 4 is a plan of the interior of the bag.

Similar letters of reference designate like parts throughout the several views.

In the practice of our invention 'we provide a blank A, of leather or other desired material, which is formed into the construction shown in Fig. 3, and this blank is stitched or otherwise secured at the corners, as shown in Fig. 2.

In the construction of our improved bag A we form the hinged side B, Fig. 4:, which is provided with lateral extensions 1), Fig. 3,adapted to be inserted within the ends of the bag, and the top or cover of the bag is provided with an extension or flap O, to which is secured the strap 0, .adapted to be secured by the buckles 1) upon the front flap of the bag. Upon the front of the bagA are secured a strap and buckle D and adapted to pass around the head of the bicycle-frame, and upon the top of the bag are also secured straps E, also provided with buckles and adapted to be secured to the horizontal portion of the frame of the bicycle.

Upon the inside of the portion B is secured a T-shaped portion F, of metal or other suitable material, the vertical portion of which is provided with slots in which is secured strap G, of leather or other suitable material, forming the loops g, Within which the tools or other articles carried in the bag are adapted to be inserted. Upon the inner side of the opposite portion of the flap of the bag is secured another strap H, of metal or other material, provided with slots into which is inserted the similar strap g, of leather or other material, also adapted to receive tools or other articles to be carried in the bag.

We do not confine ourselves to the exact con-v struction and arrangement described, but may vary the same without departing from the spirit and scope of our invention.

The bag is adapted to be secured upon the frame of the bicycle, as shown in Fig. 1, and can be readily detached therefrom by unbuckling the securing-straps, and the bag can be readily unfastened by the unbuckling of, the securing-straps o and raising the extension or flap 0. Said extension being upon the outside of the bag will prevent any water from penetrating the bag, and also the lateral extension of the flap on the front 13 will pre- Vent water from entering the bag upon the edges of the front or hinge portion B.

Having fully described our invention, we claim and desireto secure-by Letters Patent the following:

A bag or'pouch for bicycles and adapted to be used in connection with the same, consisting of a blank, said blank being stitched at the corners thereof, forming thereby a side, an extension secured thereto, a top or cover on said bag, an extension or flap secured thereto, a strap secured to the said extension, buckles on the end of said strap and upon the front flap of said bag, other straps and buckles upon said bag and adapted to engage the said bicycle, a T-shaped portion of metal being provided with slots therein within said bag,
