IMPROVED SOAP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,663, dated September l, 1866.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, S. I. BEELER, of Wales,
in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use the invention, I will proceed to describe it.
In order to manufacture soap in accordance with my invention, I take of quiclilime, one pound; salsoda, two pounds; borax, halt a pound; saltpeter, two ounces; alum, two ounces; animal grease, four pounds, and add three gallons water.
Instead of the lime and sal-soda their equivalent of concentrated lye inay be substituted.
I first place the lime in a suitable vessel and add snfticient water to slake it. I then add the Sal-soda, and heat to boiling; then cool,
and permit to settle; then drain off the liquor, place in a suitable vessel, heat to boiling, and add the grease and continue to boil until the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. I then add more water, and mix in the borax, alum, and saltpeter, stirring and boiling until thoroughly united, when it is complete.
It is obvious that the proportions need not be strictly followed in all instances, as the soap may be made stronger or weaker, according to the special use for which it is intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The manufacture of soap by the combination of the ingredients in the proportion and manner substantially as herein specified.
