HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,034, dated January 26, 1897.
Application filed May 18, 1895. Serial No. 549,806. (No model.)
To rtZZ whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. COPE, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Heating-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improvement in heating-stoves, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a stove embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one of the interior sect-ions. Fig. 3 is a section on line y 'y, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a section on line 22, Fig. 1.
My invention consists in making stoves of sections of improved construction, so that instead of being obliged to carry a great many sizes of patterns to make different sizes of stoves a greater or less number of sections may be put together to form stoves of different sizes.
My improved stove consists, essentially, of three parts, first, a front section (marked A) provided with a fire-door B and a draft-door (or not, at will) and with legs (Z; second, a rear section II, provided with legs 6, closed entirely at its rear end, except for a draftopening it, both the sections A and II being open on one side, and, third, an intermediate section or sections G, open on both sides, each section being provided with an aperture a near the top to receive a rod N, provided at one end with a head 02 and arranged at the other end to engage with a screw-nut F, and at the bottom the end sections are provided with apertures to take a rod M, provided at one end with a head M and at the other end to engage with a screw-nut E. The meeting edges of the sections are arranged in any convenient way to make a close joint between them when drawn together, a good way being that shown in Fig. 3, in which one section is provided with a groove fand the adjacent edge of the next section with a tongue I) to fit in said groove.
The stove is provided with a grate I, supported on lugs formed in the sections justbelow the opening for the door B. The grate is made in sections, there being one such gratesection for each stove-section, as most clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
It is well known that the forms of grate adapted forburning coal or for burning wood differ somewhat, and there are a number of Varieties of grates for these difierent fuels, and any known form of grate may be used.
It is evident that by means of my invention a dealer may buy and carry in stock a large number of sections and may fit up stoves of different lengths for different places by simply assembling a greater or less number of sections, and using longer or shorter tierods to fasten them together, whereby the cost of carrying stock is greatly reduced, and whereby also a large saving is made in freight, as the sections may be shipped separately and put together when and where desired.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A heating-stove, consisting of a front section having a fire-door on one side and open throughout on its opposite side, a rear section having a closed side provided with a draft-hole and open throughout on the other side, a plurality of intermediate sections all in unobstructed communication at their contiguous sides, tie-rods extending through the front, rear, and intermediate sections, and a grate made in sections, each section of the stove being provided with its own grate-section, substantially as described.
