' .W. D. ROSENGRANTZ.
CARDING MACHINE.
Patented Jan. 26, 1 897.
INVENTDR JWMM- y 09mm; P3
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'WILLIAH D. ROSENCRANTZ, OF HOHOKUS, NEW JERSEY.
CARDlNG-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,852, dated January 26, 1897.
Application filed October 10, 1896. $eria1No.608,44=2. (N model.)
' ing in Hohokus, Bergen county, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carding liachines; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide the condenser of a carding-machine with sectional take-u p tubes or rollers on which a series of one or more slivers of roving can be wound, (after said roving has left the condenser,) and which tubes or rollers after being full are doffed and put in the creel of a spinning-frame.
The invention consists in the arrangement of a series of take-up tubes or rollers on a sectional drum or delivery-roller of the condenser of a carding-machine and on a sectional drum parallel therewith, and in the combination and arrangement of the various parts thereof, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a condenser of a cardingmachine provided with my improvements, only those parts of the condenser being shown which are necessary to fully illustrate the nature of my said invention; Fig. 2, a detail side elevation of the left-hand upper portion of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a front elevation of Fig. 2.
In said drawings, A represents a portion of a finishing carding-machine, and a the frame of the condenser in connection therewith. The roving-carrying aprons m m are supported on the rollers 2% and t 71, respectively, arranged in the frame a in the usual and well-known manner. On the shafts of the rollers 11 and 'i are mounted-the grooved pulleys h 72?, connected by the endless belt 9, passing over the intermediate pulley h and over the pulley e, which latter is secured on the shaft b,. having its bearings in the brackets a, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. -On said shaft bis mounted the sectional delivery-roller or drum 0, which cooperates with a sectional drum 0 arranged parallel thereto and mounted on shaft b, which latter has its bearings in the brackets a, secured to and projecting from the condenser-frame, as clearly shown.
The drums c and c are operated by an endless belt 01, passing over pulleys arranged on the ends of the shafts b and b. On said sectional drums are loosely arranged a series of tubes or rollers f, provided with heads or flanges f, adapted to engage the space between adjoining sections of said drums c and c Said rollers or tubes f are adapted to be in frictional contact with said drums, and thus be operated by the latter. The roving from the apron m is delivered upon the tubes or rollers f, while the roving from the apron m is delivered upon the tubes or rollers f having flanges f and being loosely arranged on the sectional drums c and 0 supported, in a manner similar to the one above described, in the brackets a and a respectively, and receiving motion through belt cl or in any desired manner.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a carding-machine, the combination with the frame of its condenser and the roving-delivery apron arranged therein, of a sectional drum or delivery-roller mounted in said frame and in front of the apron, a sectional drum also mounted in said frame andin front ofsaid drum or roller and parallel thereto, and a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In a carding-machine, the combination with the frame of its condenser, and the roving-delivery apron arranged therein, of a sectional drum or delivery-roller mounted in said frame and in front of the apron, a sectional drum also mounted in said frame and in front of said drum or rollerand parallel thereto, a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, and a head or flange on the ends of each tube or roller and enga ing between adjoining sections of the drum and frictional roller, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. In a carding-machine the combination with the frame of its condenser, and the rovin g-delivery apron arranged tl1erein,of a shaft in front of said apron and mounted in the frame, a sectional drum or delivery-roller secured on said shaft, a shaft in front of said sectional drum or roller and parallel thereto, a sectional drum secured on said parallel shaft, and a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
4. In a carding-machine the combination with the frame of its condenser, and the rovin g-delivery apron arranged therein ,of a shaft in front of said apron and mounted in the frame, a sectional drum or delivery-roller secured on said shaft, a shaft in front of said sectional drum or roller and parallel thereto, a sectional drum secured on said parallel shaft, a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, and a head or flange on the ends of each tube or roller and engaging between adjoining sections of the drum and frictional roller, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
5. In a carding-machine, the combination with the frame of its condenser, of a sectional drum or delivery roller mounted in said frame, a sectional drum also mounted in said frame in front of the said drum or roller and parallel thereto, and a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
6. In a carding-machine, the combination with the frame of its condenser, of a sectional drum or deliveryroller mounted in said frame, a sectional drum also mounted in said frame in front of said drum or rollerand parallel thereto, a series of tubes or rollers loosely arranged on said sectional drum and roller and in frictional contact therewith, and a head or flange on the ends of each tube or roller and engaging between adjoining sections of the drum and frictional roller, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of October, 1896.
WILLIAM D. ROSENCRANTZ.
