HAMMOCK-SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,838, dated January 26, 1897.

Beit known thatI,AnoLPHHoFFMAN,acitizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hammock-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of my invention is to provide a support for hammocks that shall be of simple and economical construction, which shall be readily taken apart for storage and transportation and be quickly put together for use, and, further,which may be easily rolled about, yet be firm and stable when supporting a swinging person.

Myinvention consists in the improved construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In the annexed drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 represents a view in side elevation; and Fig. 2 an end View, partly in section, to illustrate details.

Like characters of reference in the two views designate corresponding parts.

1 designates the body or main frame, which has at opposite ends the upwardly-inclined arms 2 2 and the downwardly and outwardly curved arms 3 3. At the bases of each of the arms 2 2 are downwardly-extending squared studs 4, and at the extremities of the arms 3 are downwardly-extending squared studs 5. The studs 4 and 5 are shown to be in the same vertical line.

6 6 designate the leg-frames, each of which has two feet 7 provided with rollers 8, journaled to stand in planes parallel to the length of the frame 1.

The leg-frames are made with a socket at the top to fit upon the squared stud 4 of the arm 2, and a cross piece 9 between the branches of the leg has a socket to fit upon the squared stud 5 on the arm 3. When a leg-frame has been adjusted upon the studs t and 5, it is secured by means of a bolt 10, passed down through a hole in the stud 5, and a nut 11, turned up on the threaded end of the bolt tightly against the cross-piece 9.

Curved springs 12, of steel, are removably attached by means of bolts and nuts to the outer extremities of the arms 2 2, and at the upper end of these springs are hooks 13, upon which a hammock or babys cradle is hung.

To move the device about the room, it is only necessary to tilt it up on one pair of rollers, when it may be easily moved in any direction.

The journaling of the rollers in planes parallel to the general plane of the frame will allow the lateral swinging of the hammock or cradle Witho ut moving the supporting-frame.

From the foregoing it will also be observed that the support consists, essentially, of but five parts, which may be easily and quickly separated and compacted for storage or transportation.

My improved support will be especially useful for invalids at sanitariums and seaside resorts, as it may be easily moved about upon the porch or verandas to avoid winds or secure sunlight without disturbing the invalid.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a hammock or cradle support, a frame 1 having arms 2, 2 and 3, 3, formed in one piece with squared studs 4 and 5, leg- frames 6, 6, formed in one piece having sockets to fit upon said studs 4 and 5 with means for securing said leg-frames to said studs, substantially as shown and described.
