from coming into contact with the wheels or gearing of the vehicle. Hence said invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a general view illustrating an application of a device constructed according to my invention; Fig. 2, 3 a partly-sectional view of the clamp portion of said device in working position.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A 13 represent jaws that may result from the bending of a preferably spring-metal plate central of the same to form a hollow bead b fora filling 0 of lead or other heavy material, the ex-- tensions of the plate being held one against the other for a limited distance beyond the bead by'rivets cl or other suitable means, and then diverged to form the jaws aforesaid. The jaws are preferably toothed, and, as herein shown, the teeth 6 f may be the result of illdenting said jaws at suitable intervals. The jaw B has anaperture in loose engagement with an arm 0, extended from jaw A, and a spiral spring D is shown arranged on the arm between said jaws, but if said jaws have sufficient elasticity in themselves said spring may be omitted. In hinge connection with the outer end of the post 0 is a lever 1, having its upper extremity in the form of tongues g, exertive against the jaw B, the lower portion of the lever being shaped to conform with The assembled parts thus far described constitute a clamp, and extending from the lower portion of the same are longitudinally-yielding elastic branches F, having spring-pins G or other suitable skirt-attachin g devices joined th ereto. . with each other and held in place by crimping the jaw-plate thereon, as is herein shown; but it is practical to connect the clamp and said branches in various ways.

In practice the front and rear edges of the skirts are inserted between the jaws A B of the clamp, the latter being arranged to come intermediate of the legs of the wearer, and

the lever portion of said clamp is swung down to close said jaws, after which the elastic branches F are coupled to the front edges of said skirts.

The fullness of the skirts being gathered in and held by means of the clamp, the elastic branches of said clamp permit yield to the knee motion of the wearer mounted on a bi cycle.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A garment-protector comprising a clamp having the jaws thereof spring-controlled, an arm extending from one jaw through an aperture in the other, a lever hinged to the arm to operate upon the apertured jaw, elastic branches extending laterally from the clamp, and skirt-attaching devices secured to said branches.

2. A garment-protector comprising a clamp having a weighted extremity and the jaws thereof spring-controlled, an arm extending from one jaw through an aperture in the other, a lever hinged to the arm to operate upon the apertured jaw, elastic branches extendinglaterally from the clamp, and skirt-attaching devices secured to said branches.

3. A garment-protector comprising a clamp, elastic cord in rigid connection with the clamp but extending therefrom in opposite directions, and skirt-attaching devices connected to ends of the cord. g

4. A garment protector comprising a weighted clamp, elastic cord in rigid connection with the clamp but extending therefrom in opposite directions, and skirt-attaching devices connected to the ends of the cord.
