ATTORNEY WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSKAR PAUL LOOIIMANN, OF LEIPSIC, GERMANY.
NOTE-DISK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,017, dated December 15, 1896.
Application filed May 20, 1896. Serial No. 592,359. (No model.)
To (tZZ/ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSKAR PAUL Loon- MANN a subject of the King of Saxony, and a resident of Leipsic, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Note-Disk Holders, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
My invention has reference to improve ments in note-disk holders for mechanical musical instruments, and has for its object to produce a uniform pressure of the note-disk against the reeds or other sounding mechanism under all circumstances. I-Ieretofore the note disk holder has been constructed to swing longitudinally at an angle with respect to the note disk the same having been hinged at one end at a point outside of the note-disk, while its opposite end was fastened to the center-pin after being pressed against the notedisk. In View of this arrangement the least deviation from the normal position caused an unevenly distributed pressure against the note-disk. According to myinvention I support the 110136-diSl holder upon one or more hinged arms, the line of hinges being parallel to the plane of the disk.
The nature of myinvention will best be understood when described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a bottom view of the note-disk and holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same with part of the cover of the casing in section. Figs. 3 and at are similar views illustrating a modified form.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring at present to Figs. 1 and of the drawings, the letter II designates the note disk holder, provided with a number of antifriction-wheels h, adapted to bear upon the note-disk N, which latter is centered on the center-pin O, as usual.
The note-disk holder is secured to two arms A A which are hinged by pivot-pins X X to arms 13 13 secured to blocks 13, attached to the cover Gr or other suitable part of the casing. The axis of the hinges X is arranged in a plane parallel to the plane of the note-disk, so that the holder swings in parallel lines with respect to the plane of the notedisk.
The note-disk holder is centrally apertured, so as to pass over the center-pin O, and is provided with a spring-catch R, which engages with a groove 1* in the center-pin to lock the holder when it is against the note-disk N. In Figs. 3 and at I have shown the note-disk holder provided with antifriction-wheels 7t located only on one side of the center-pin O, the arms A A being also pivoted directly at X and X to brackets (L o, secured to the side G of the casing.
In Fig. 4 the note-disk holder is shown in its operative position and locked by the springcatch R.
The note-disk holder may be used in connection with note-disks driven directly by the motor, or it maybe placed against a separate driving-disk. ltis also evident that the notedisk holder may be supported in a hinged yoke and may be secured to the center-pin by anysuitablc device other than that described.
What I claim as new is 1. A note-disk holder supported on a hinged arm or arms and adapted to swing in parallel lines with respect to the plane of the notedisk, substantially and for the purpose set forth.
2. A note-disk holder supported on hinged arms having their axis of oscillation parallel to the plane of the disk, combined with a centor pin and a locking device for the notedisk holder, substantially as described.
3. A notewlisk holder supported 011 hinged arms having their axis of oscillation parallel to the plane of the disk, combined with a grooved center-pin and a spring-pressed catch on the holder adapted to engage with the center pin, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OSKAR PAUL LOOI-IMANN. llitnesscs:
