J-. R. MONTGOMERY.
SPINNING 0R TWISTING MACHINE.
No. 572.659. Patented Dec. 8, 1896.
THE-NORRIS PETERS c0, PNOTO-LITNCL, wasmuum UNITED STATES JOHN R. MONTGOMERY, OF WVINDSOR LOCKS, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF THREE-FOURTHS TO GEORGE M. MONTGOMERY, OF SAME PLACE, AND
GEORGE DRAPER & SONS, OF I-IOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPINNING OR TWISTING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,659, dated December 8, 1896.
- Application filed May 13, 1896. Serial No. 591,883. (No model.)
tached to other whole strands going to the spindle and break them, or two strands unite, making a larger yarn.
My invention has for its object to prevent a broken end from fouling and breaking an adjacent strand, and to do this I have combined separators with the usual drawing or delivery rolls, the said separators occupying aposition between the said rolls and the usual guide-eyes.
Figure 1 in front elevation shows a sufficient portion of a spinning or twisting machine to enable my invention to be understood; Fig. 2, a section in the line w.
The framework A, bolster-rail l3, ring-rail C, drawing or delivery rolls D, top or clearer board D, roller-stand D and guide-eyes a are and may be all as usual.
In accordance with my invention I have placed between the front pair of rolls and the usual guide-eyes a series of separators b, so that in case a strand 0 breaks between the rolls and the guide-eye the broken end of said strand cannot be blown or carried aside, so as to catch on or foul, and thus break down, an adjacent strand going properly to a spindle or adhere to and travel with the unbroken strand, and thus double its size, which is very objectionable.
The separators are shown as held loosely in position by a staple d, driven into the top or clearer board, the separators hanging between the yarns going from the front rolls to the guide-eyes.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination with a set of drawing or delivery rolls and the top or clearer board cooperating with said rolls, of a series of separators connected loosely to the upper front end of said board and extended down in front of the said rolls to operate, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN R. MONTGOMERY.
