A. L. LINDSAY. THILL TUG.
Patented Dec. 8, 1896.
W K 'VENTOR.
ATTORNE V.
ms PEYERS 0o wow-urns WASNINGTON n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AROHIBALD L. LINDSAY, OF YVYOHING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO WILLIAM R. OHAPIN, OF .SAME PLACE, AND JOHN IV. I-IOWARTH, OF SORAN-TON, PENNSYLVANIA.
THlLL-TUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,552, dated December 8, 1896.
Application filed June 1, 1896. Serial No. 593,789. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LAROHIBALD L.LINDSAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wyoming, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lhill-Tugs; and
I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of :reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in thill-tugs, and is an improvement on application Serial No. 589,643, dated April 3, 1896, by W. R. Ohapin and A. L. Lindsay, assignee of one-half interest; and it consists in constructing the clasp with the curved lever hung so that it is not necessary to lift the belly-band and pass the thill under it, but so that when the lower end of the lever is pulled out from the horse it will admit of the thill being laid into place; also in the addition of a buckle to the top part, which will allow it to be directly connected to any harness, and it may also be constructed with a buckle on the lower end for the belly-band, and is shown inthe accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a front view of the device, and Fig. 2 a side view.
B B B represent the carrying-hook, which is made to fasten to the back-band with buckle or other means and has its lower end curved to the shape of the thill A.
O is a locking-lever pivoted to the rear part of the carrying-hook at a point near its center, the lower end made of proper shape to fasten to the belly-band, and the upper end curved out and down to clasp the thill as the belly-band is tightened, and by which it is held in place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. A shaft-tug consisting of the combination of the carrying-hook having means for suspending it from the back-band, with a retaining-hook pivoted near its center to the shank of the carrying-hook, the lower end running down behind and below the thill having means to fasten the belly-band thereto, the upper end curved to fit over the top of the thill to hold it in place when the lower end is pulled down, and to release it when the lower end is pulled out and up, substantially as described and shown.
2. A shaft-tug consisting of the combination of a double carrying-hook having means for suspending it from the back-band with a retaining-hook pivoted between its ends and between the arms of the double hook the lower end running down behind and below the thill, having means to fasten the bellyband thereto, the upper end curved in such a manner that when the belly-band is buckled it will draw down over the top of the thill and hold it firmly in place, and when the belly-band is loosened the thill is released, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AROHIBALD L. LINDSAY;
Witnesses:
G. B. THOMPSON, E. B. PATTERSON.
