- This invention relates to a set specially adapted for overhead work, as in putting up ceiling.
- Figure l is a front view, and Fig. 2 a side view, of my complete device, while Fig. 3 is a perspective of that part which embodies the gist of my invention.
- My improved set comprises a hooked lever I, an arm F, and a collar adjustable on the lever I to support the arm F approximately at the desirable height.
- the hook end H of the lever is sharpened on its inside to bite into the joist, as shown in Fig. 3.

A. G. T'UBBS. FLOORING AND CEILING LEVER.
No. 571,810. Patented Nov. 24, 1896.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS C. TUBES, OF TRADING POST, KANSAS.
FLOORING A-ND CEILING LEVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 571,810, dated November 24, 1896.
Application filed July 25, 1895.
To 05% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMOS G. TUBES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trading Post, in the county of Linn and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Flooring and Ceiling Lever, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a set specially adapted for overhead work, as in putting up ceiling.
Figure l is a front view, and Fig. 2 a side view, of my complete device, while Fig. 3 is a perspective of that part which embodies the gist of my invention.
My improved set comprises a hooked lever I, an arm F, and a collar adjustable on the lever I to support the arm F approximately at the desirable height.
The hook end H of the lever is sharpened on its inside to bite into the joist, as shown in Fig. 3.
The arm F is grooved at B to engage the work and is loosely swiveled on the lever I, so as to be capable of all the slight motions it has to make. While the lever I is being rocked about its hooked end as a fulcrum to make the bite well into the joist it is necessary to pull on the lever I, and this is the $erial No. 557,161. (No model.)
principal advantage of my device over the common form when working overhead.
\Vhile my floorin g set presents great advantage over the ordinary form in many places, there are some places Where it could not be used. I therefore provide what would be the free end of my lever with a jaw D, an arm A, pivoted at C and grooved at B, to form a floor set of the usual construction. The two sets mounted on the same lever being always at hand, the operator can select at any time the one best suited to the work he is doing.
"What I claim is The combination of a lover I, having a hook at one end the inside edge of the hook being sharpened, an arm F, having at one end a hole through which the lever passes freely and at its other end a groove B, to engage the work, with a collar adjustable along said lever I to limit the motion of said arm F.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
AMOS (J. TUBES.
