MEDICINE DOSE-INDICATING CABINET.

(N0 de To all 1071 0121, it may cancer/1 lie it known that I, NARCISSA SMITH SPRING- ER, of Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a new and useful medicine-cabinet more especially designed for use in homes or hospitals; and it consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perpective of my cabinet, showing it in its open position; and Fig. 2 is a side view showing the interior of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the shelf-rack.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a shelf removably secured to the inner side walls of the cabinet by means of cleats a. (See Fig. 2.) It will be observed that by this means the shelf can be taken out to afford access to the interior of the cabinet when it is desired to cleanse the same.

A suitable distance above shelf A, I provide a-bottle-supporting rack B. Said rack is also removably secured, by means of cleats, for the purpose of sliding in and out of the front of my cabinet. Rack 13 may be constructed of a single piece of metal formed or bent laterally and approximately centrally thereof to form a top and side. In the top of rack B, I provide holes or recesses, said holes or recesses being large enough to conform to the size or sizes of the bottles which are to be supported by said rack. Said rack B is also provided, upon its front or clownwardly projecting portion, with numbers, designating-marks, or characters indicating or corresponding with those borne by the bottles contained therein to prevent their being misplaced upon being returned to the rack.

G designates a dial that is rigidly secured to the cabinet and preferably located centrally or approximately centrally thereof below rack 13. Said dial is also provided with figures or characters corresponding with those used upon rack B or the bottles or vials supported thereby. The words Pills and Powders may also appear upon my dial, or numbers may be used, as indicated, for the purpose hereinafter described. Centrally of dial C and pivotally secured thereto I place a hand or finger O, that is adapted to be turned or pointed so as to designate the medicine on the rack or to said word Powder or Pills, as the case may be, so that if it is necessary that at a stated time medicine contained in bottle or vial numbered at be given to the patient hand or finger 0 will of course be turned or moved to point to the figure 4 appearing upon the aforesaid dial.

Upon the floor or bottom of my cabinet are arranged two or more drawers D D for the purpose of accommodating powders, pills, &c. Drawers D D bear labels designating the contents of said drawers, as, for instance, the words Powders or Pills, respectively, as shown in Fig. 1, or they may bear numbers, as indicated.

Upon reference to Fig. 1 of thedrawings it will be seen that I have provided my cabinet, preferably in the upper left-hand corner, with one or more suitable supporting devices for accommodating or supporting spoons. Said supporting devices may be of any suitable material for the purpose. A shelf E is also provided, in the upper righthand corner of said cabinet, upon which a suitable clock may be placed, or said clock may be suitably attached to my cabinet in any other preferredmanner.

My cabinet, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, is provided with two outwardly-swinging doors for the purpose of closing it when the cabinet is not in use. Said doors swing upon hinges, which are fastened in the ordinary manner by means of screws,'aud may, if desired, be constructed of glass or other transparent material.

\Vhile I do not confine myself to the exactconstruction illustrated in the drawings, still it is obvious that my cabinet, as hereinbefore described, is very simple and convenient and fills a long-felt want, inasmuch as it has not unfrequently happened that disastrous results have been occasioned by the nurse or attendant failing to administer medicine to the patient accurately and at the proper time. It will therefore be seen that by winding the alarm of my clock and settingit to ring at the desired time if the nurse or attendant has fallen asleep the sounding of the alarm will be a reminder to him and thus obviate the difficulty hereinbefore explained.

\Vhat I claim is-- 1. A medicine-cabinet comprising in its construction the following elements a bottlerack consisting of a horizontal and vertical portion, the horizontal portion provided with openings to receive the bottles, and the vertical portion adapted to have characters formed or printed thereon to designate the bottles or contents, and a lower sliding shelf to support the bottom of the bottles, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.

In a medicine-cabinet, the combination with a bottle-rack and shelf, the said rack being provided with a horizontal portion pro- 2 5 vided with holes for receiving and retaining the bottles and a vertical portion for receivin g the necessary characters to designate the bottles or contents, of an indicator having characters corresponding with the charac- 3o ters on the rack, said indicator being provided with a movable pointer, substantially,
