G. M. WILLMENT. ADJUSTABLE WASHBASIN CLAMP.
No. 569,268. Patented Oct. 13, 1-896.
Hill-Wil- WITNESSES "WE/V NITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
GEORGE M. \VILLMENT, OF NEX" YORK, N. Y.
ADJ LlSTABLE WASHBASlN-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,268, dated October 13, 1896.
Application filed June 2, 1896- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. WILLMENT, a subject of the Queen of England, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable \Vashbasin-Olamps, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to stationary washbasins, bowls, and similar devices, and the object thereof is to provide improved means for connecting such bowls or basins with marble slabs, tables, or similar supports; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a bowl or basin connected with a marble slab or similar support bymeans of myimproved connecting device, and Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, I have shown at 5 an ordinary marble slab, table, or support, and at 6 a bowl or basin connected therewith. The bowl or basin 6 is provided with an annular outwardly-directed flange or rim '7, and in practice I form in the slab or table 5, at predetermined points around the central opening therein, cavities or recesses S, which are out out so as to render the inner portions thereof larger than the opening or passage thereinto, and secured in each of said openings is a screw-threaded bolt 9, said bolts being secured in place by means of cement, as shown at 10, or in any desired manner. Mounted on each of said bolts is a yoke-shaped attachment 11, through the head of which the bolt passes, and said heads are provided on their outer surfaces with transverse ratchet-teeth 12, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, or said yokes may be tubular in form and provided with a closed end or head in which the ratchetteeth 12 are formed, and mounted on said bolts are plates 13, having oblong slots let formed Serial No, 593,966. (No model.)
therein, through which the bolts 9 pass, and said plates are provided on their inner surare adapted to engage with the teeth 12, formed on the attachment 11. The bolts 9 are also provided with washers 16 and nuts or burs 17, by which said washers are firmly clamped to or pressed upon the plates 13, and the inner ends of said plates are provided with curved or segmental heads 18, which are adapted to press upon the annular flange or rim 7 and to securely hold the bowl or basin in position.
It will be understood that the plates 13 are securely clamped to the yoke-shaped or tubular attachments 11 by means of the nuts or burs 17 and the ratchet-teeth formed on said plates, and said attachments preventthe same from slipping in either direction, and thus said plates, or the curved or segmental heads 18 formed thereon, are caused to clamp and securely hold the bowl or basin in connection with the slab 5.
The bowl or basin 6 is provided with the usual bottom plate 19, in the center of which is formed an opening 20, through which the contents of the bowl or basin may be discharged, and by means of my improved connecting devices the bowl or basin may be securely connected with the table or slab 5 without danger of breaking either of said parts; and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described means for connecting a bowl or basin with a marble or other slab, or table, which consists of a bolt which is fixed in the bottom portion of said slab or table, an attachment mounted on said bolt, and provided with a cross-head having transverse ratchet-teeth formed therein, and a plate having a longitudinal slot through which said bolt passes, said plate being provided on its under side with ratchet-teeth which engage with those formed in the attachment, and said plate being held in place by a nut or bur, and being provided with a head which presses faces with transverse ratchet-teeth 15,which ratchet-teeth which are adapted to engage with those formed in the attachment, said plates being also provided with curved or segmental heads which are adapted: to bear upon an annular flange or rim formed on the bowl or basin, and said bolts being each provided with a washer and a nut or bur, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of May, 1896.
GEORGE M. WILLMENT.
