IMPROVED CLOTH ES-WASHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,773. dated July 31, v1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARIADNA B. MERCIER,
.of Providence, in the county of Providence `easily in a clothes-boiler of any shape. This plate is perforated 'with small holes, having one large hole in the center, Fig. 4.. This hole is provided with a stopper B, Figs. 1 and 2. On the under side of plate A are four legs, for the purpose of keeping it a suitable distance from the bottom of a clothes-boiler When in use, as shown by dotted lines on Figs. 2 and 3. y
What my invention consists in, and to use the same, is, when the space under plate A, which is formed by the application of my invention in a boiler, is lled With Water, and the stopper B being in the large hole, the clothes to be washed are placed on either side and around this stopper. The boiler isthen placed over a fire. As soon as the Water commences to boil, the stopper B is removed, the
center hole being so large that `the ebullition by boiling causes a jet of Water to be forced up through this hole, and, falling back on the clothes, rinsing them, and runs` down through the small holes into the space under plate A, making a continuous revolution of the Water, which, in connection With the steam, removes all dirt from the Clothes.V
By the use of my invention clothes can be washed Without rubbing `them and in onequarter the time, rendering them AWhiter and saving the fabric, as it is not necessary to use a Wash-board in connection with my invention, the advantages of which can be plainly seen,
vas rubbing the clothes destroys them more or less Without rendering them as clean, and being a laborious process.
With my invention, one hour boiling, Athe clothes can be put into the last rinsing-Water, Wrung out, and hung on the line to dry.
I do not claim the boilerfor boiling clothes in 5 but What I do claim as my invention, and Wish 'to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a perforated plate with a stopper, in the manner set forth, and for the purpose specied.
ARIADNA B. MERCIER.
