Description

(No Model.)
` L. B. WOOD. GRAVITY SPRAYER FUR FIELD GROPS.
Patented Aug. 25, 1896.
E-uumummmlmmmmnEl UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LYMAN B. WOOD, OF ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN.
GRAVlTY SPRAYER FOR FIELD-SHOPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,729, dated August 25, 1896. Application filed May 10,1895. Serial No. 548,884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t 11i/ty concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN BEEcnEr. Woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ann Arbor, in the county of Washtenaw and State wheels in which the fluid used runs through the bottom of a tank and is delivered upon the plants through rose -nozzles connected with the discharge-pipes.
The objects of my invention are, iirst, to provide valves to cover the ends of the discharge-pipes Within the tank that can be simultaneously opened or closed by turning a handle outside the tank by the driver of the tank-cart; second, to aord facilities for the proper regulation of the pressure of the valves on their seats, and, third, to adjust the delivery of the liquid to the spacing of the rows of plants. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which-- Figure lis a vertical sectional elevation of this sprayer, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the spring-bar J K.
Similar letters refer to similar parts.
The Wheels lV carry the axle X, upon which is mounted a tank, as shown, with doors Pin its top for lling and cleaning it. Fromthe bottom of this tank proceed two or more discharge-pipes N with rose-nozzles M on their outer ends. The pipes N have valve=seat tops, upon Which rest leather cover-valves L, held to their place by a spring-bar J K, which is joined with a shaft C D, turned by a handle AB outside the tank.
E F represent the device for keeping a tight joint round the shaft C D.
S is an enlargement of the shaft C D to form a shoulder at its top, so that Washers inserted at H will regulate the pressure of the valves on their seats. By turning the handle A B horizontally the pipes are opened or closed.
I have tWo ways of adjusting the delivery of the liquid to the spacing of the rows. The one shown in the drawings consists of slots in the spring-bar J K, (shown in Fig. 2,) by means of which a tank may be fitted with discharge-pipes at dii'erent distances apart and the same valves made to cover the openings. The other method is to attach the rose-nozzles M to the discharge-pipes by a gooseneck connection, so they can be set at various distances apart by turning the goosenecks to point in various directions.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is
In a gravity sprayer for field-crops, the discharge-pipes, N, the cover-valves L, the slotted spring-bar, J K, the shaft, O D, and the handle, A B, combined as shown and specified for the purpose of simultaneously moving said valves, L, by means of the handle, A B, and thereby opening and closing the discharge-pipes, N.
