SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,259, dated. August 18, 1896. Application filed March 2, 1896. Serial No. 581,503. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERRMAN L. WELLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pe toskey, in the county of Emmet and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Display Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to a garment-display frame adapted to be used for exhibiting coats and other garments; and it is the object of my invention to obtain a collapsible frame which when not in use may be flattened down to facilitate its storage and which may be quickly expanded whenever needed.

In the drawings, in which I have shown a frame designed for displaying a coat, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the expanded frame ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the frame collapsed, and Fig. 4 is a cross-section thereof.

A is a base, preferably formed of a wire frame bent into the shape of a bust and having at its lower end the connecting cross-bar B, provided with a series of loops or eyes 0.

D are a series of wire loops or forimbars slidingly secured at their ends in the eyes 0.

E is a connecting bar or frame hinged to the bar A and each of the loops D, preferably consisting of a wire loop having the eyes F formed therein engaging with said loops D and base.

To the outer end of this frame E is hinged the ring G, adapted to enter the sleeve and form a support for the shoulder of the coat.

H is a crossbar connecting the sides of the base-frame.

I is a bail hinged to the cross-bar II, of shape corresponding to a horizontal section through the bust. J are loops or notches in this bail, in which the loops D are adapted to rest.

K is an outward bend or extension of the bail I, to which the lower part of the ring G is hinged by means of eyes thereon engaging with said extension.

L is a brace rod or stay hinged at its upper end to the bail I and at its lower end provided with a hook or shoulder M, adapted to engage with the cross-bar B to hold the bail in its extended position.

The parts being thus constructed, when the brace L is engaged with the crossbar B the frame is held in its expanded position and may be used for displaying a coat, the baseframe being provided with an eye N for hanging the frame on a supporting-pin. When the frame is not in use, by disengaging the hook M from the cross-bar B the frame may be collapsed, the bail I and tie E folding downward and the loops D sliding through the eyes 0 and into the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4.

Although I have shown and described a frame forming a half-bust and designed to be hung upon the Wall, I do not wish to be limited to this construction, as it is obvious that it may be constructed to form the whole bust.

What I claim as my invent-ion isl. A garment-display frame comprising a rigid base, a collapsible frame of the desired shape secured thereon, means hinged to the base for holding the frame extended, and a movable stay or tie having a sliding engagement with the base for holding said means in position.

2. A garment-display frame comprising a base, a series of connected form-bars having hinged connection with the base at one end and sliding connection with the base at the other, means for holding said form-bars extended, and a stay or tie for holding said means in position.

3. A garment-display frame comprising a base, a bar or frame hinged to one end thereof, a series of form-bars hinged to said bar or frame, and having a sliding engagement with the base, and a stay for holding the form in its raised or extended position.

4. A garment-display frame comprising a base, a bar or frame hinged to one end thereof, a series of form-bars hinged to said bar or frame having a sliding engagement with the base, a bail hinged to the base of a shape com forming to the desired cross-section of the display-frame and. against which said formbars rest, a stay or brace bar adapted to engage with said base and bail to hold the lat- G, the bail I hinged to the base, the extension I0 ter in its extended position, and a connection K thereon, the ring Ghinged to said bail and between said bail and hinged bar or frame. the frame E and the stay or brace L.
