My invention has for its objeet the furnishing an improved bed for hospitals, &o., for use When the invalid is 1300 feelole to loe moved without enclz1ngering bis life, in Order to preserve the be l f10111 beoo1ning web or defiled; 211101 113 eousists of 21 series of pipes, plane and eonezwe plates, and 21 valve, comloinecl Wl13ll eaoh obher 111d with 21 bed o1 mattress, as herei11z1fter more fully deseriberl.

A is 21 bed er mattress, through wl1ieh, in the proper plaoe, is 1nade 21 hole for the passage of 21 pipe, B. 'lo the upper end of this pipe is seoured 21 plate, O, ooneave 011 its upper und oonvex 011 its lower side, 21s shown. Upo11 the lower end of the pipe B is eu1: 21 sorew-thread.

D is 21 oireul2u plate Within the hole, th1ou gh the Center of whieh is eut 21 serew-thread eor responding with the thread upon the lower end of the pipe B. This plate is sorewed up 11po11 the pipe B so tightly 21s to sink the plate O into the upper part; of the bed or mattress so f211 th21t lt; will not interfere witl1 the comfort of the pe1sou lying upou the bed.

E is 21 euwed plate, the 0011 vex side of whioh corresponds wi th the eoneavity of the platze O. 'lo the hole through this plate is attaehed 21 shorl; pipe or flange having 21 serew-thread eut 11p011 its outside 21ml fitting into 21 threz1d 01113 wit-hin the 11pper end of the pipe B, 21s shown.

Between the plates G 211111 E is placed 21 sheet; 0f rubber eloth, F, or other material imp'ervious to moisture, hzwing 21 hole through its oenter, through whieh the upperend of the pipe B may pass. This sl1eet F may be of such 21 size 21s 130 eover so mueh 0f the bed or mattress 21s 11121y be neeessary eo preserve 111 f101n beeo1ning 1vet or defiled.

Tl1e sheet F is elz1mped between the plates O and E by screwing down the plate E 11po11 the sheet F, 111d the plante O by 1neans 0f the serew-thread cut 11p011 the flange or sho1b pipe attaohed to the plate E 2111d fitting i11to the serew-thread eut within the uppe1 end of the pipe B, 21s before deseribed.

G is a pipe having a serew-thread eut within its upper end, fitting upon the th1ead 01113 upon the lower eucl of the pipe B, so tl1z1t theheight Of the lower e11d of the pipe G f10n1 the floor may be regulated aceord1'ng to the l1eight of the bedstead, or of the reservoir H placed beneath the lower end ot" seid. pipe G.

'lhe vz1lve J is kept; closetl by the aetion of the spring L, which is only stiff enougl1 to hold the valve alone, so that 1f anything falls 11p011 the valve the seid valve will opeu, and 113 will pass through into the reservoir H.

'lhe v21lve J is designed to prevenb unpleas- 211113 odors f1o1n passing up from the reservoir H through the pipes G 111d B to the bed.

Having thus desoribed 111 y invention, I olai1n as 11ew 2111d desire to seeure by Letters Pateub-- A11 improved invalid-bed foru1ed by combi11111g the plpes B and G, the plates E, O, D, and I, the sheet F, valve J, z1nd spring L with eaoh other 211111 with the bed 01 mattress, substantially as deseribed, und for the purpose sei; forth.
