LOUIS P. BAOHAD, OF SOUTHBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
BOTTLE-COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,726, dated July 14, 1896. Application filed February '7, 1896. Serial No. 578,355 (No model.)
.To all whom, t 'muy concern:
Be it known that l, Louis P. BACHAND, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Southbridge, in the county of XVOreester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Coolers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bottle-coolers, and the object of my inventionisto provide a combined bottle case and cooler which is portable and of simple construction, and in which a number of bottles may be packed in removable trays and kept cool by ice carried in an ice-chamber in the lower part of the ease.
My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my combined bottle case and cooler, as will be hereinafter fully described, and the nature thereof ind ica-ted by the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section through my improved bottle case and cooler, taken at a point indicated by line 1 1, Fig. 2, looking in the direction of arrow a, same ligure. Fig. is a crosssection on line 2 2, Fig. l, looking in the direction of arrow b, same ligure. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the bottle-trays removed.
The bottle case and cooler consists of a box or case of suitable size, having a bottom 1, front and back 2 and 3, sides or ends a and 5, and cover (5. The cover is in this instance hinged to the back 3 of the box by hinges G', and provided with a hinged latch 7, adapted to fitover a staple or eye 7 in the front side 2 of the box.
One side or end of the box, as a, is provided with a movable section et at the lower part thereof, which in this instance is hinged to the bottom of the box by hinges 8, as shown in Fig. 1, and is kept closed, in this instance by a thumb-nut 9.'
In the lower part of the box or case is an ice-chamber 10. A metal tray 11, having a ring 12 or its equivalent at the front end thereof and a waste-pipe 13 at the rear lower part thereof, extends in the chamber 9, and is adapted to be moved in or out through the opening in the end of the box, over which the hinged section it extends. On the bottom of the tray 11 may be placed a wooden rack 1t, upon which is placed one or more cakes of ice 15. (Shown by broken lines.) The wastepipe 13 extends through a hole in one end or side of the box. (See Fig. 1.)
Extending on the front and back side of the box, just over the tray 11, are cleats or supports 16, and on said cleats rests a removable bottle-tray 17, which is divided up into a number of separate sections or compartments 1S, in this instance twelve in number. A central division 19 extends through the tray, as shown in Fig. 3, and is notched or cut out to receive the heads of the bottles. The bottom of the tray is slot-ted or perforated below each compartment, as shown at 20, to furnish an air-space through which the cool air from the ice-chamber circulates.
One or more trays for holding the bottles may be used, as desired. l have shown in the drawings two trays, the second placed directly on top of and resting on the first.
The ends of the boxes may be provided with metal or other handles 21, and the ends of the bottle-trays may be provided with eut-out portions 22 for handles.
The advantages of my combined bottle case and cooler will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art. It is of very simple construction and may be used as a portable ease and cooler in transporting bottled liquids or as a stationary cooler or refrigerator to keep the bottles cool.
It will be understood that the details of construction of some of the parts of my combined bottle ease and cooler may be varied if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A tray, for the support of bottles in a bottle case and cooler, consisting of a rectangular frame having a perforated or slotted bottom, longitudinal, parallel, division-slats therein, separated from each other by means of a central transverse division-wall consisting of a series of blocks, thereby forming com partments within the said frame, each compartment adapted to hold a single bottle, the said central division-blocks notched or recessed on two sides for the reception of the heads of the bottles placed in said compartments, substantially as described.
IOO
2. In a bottle case and cooler, the combinapartment adapted to contain a single bottle, the bottom of the said tray slotted or perforated, to allow the cold air from the ice-chamber to circulate around the bottles contained in the said compartments, substantiallyas dcscribed.
LOUIS P. BACHAND.
