Description
(N6 Modell) A. WBIGAND. REMOVABLB GALK FOR HoRsEsHoEs. No. 563,341. I Patented July 7 www@ wmf
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW WEIGAND, OF MALVERN, OHIO.
REMOVABLE CALK FOR HORSESHOES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,341, dated July 7, 1896.
Application filed March 18. 1896.
To 1f/ZZv whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW WEIGAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malvern,in the county of Carroll and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Removable Oalks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings,
making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the shoe, showing the detachable calks properly attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a view showing the bottom or under side of the shoe. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the shoe, showing a section of the toe-calk and a side view of one of the heel-calks. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of one of the calks, showing the same properly attached to the shoe. Fig. 5 is a detached view of the toe-calk.
The present invention has relation to removable calks for horseshoes 3 and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the shoe, which is constructed in the ordinary manner, reference being had to attaching the calks thereto. The heel end of the shoe is providedwith the iianges a, Which anges are provided with the slots h, which slots are located and arranged substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.4 The toe end of the calk is also provided with the iiange c, which ilange is provided with the slot or opening d. The toe-calkB is substantially of the form shown in Figs. l and 4., and, as shown, it is provided with the lateral shank d', which lateral shank is provided with the groove d2, said groove being located upon the top or upper side of the lateral shank d'. The heelcalks C are also provided with lateral shanks, such as e, and are provided upon their top Serial No. 583,827. (No model.)
or upper sides with the grooves f. For the purpose of providing a means for allowing the top or upper ends of the calks to come directly under the body of the shoe A, as illustrated in Figs. l, 3, and 4, the flanges a and c are cut out or recessed at the heel ends, and at the toe end the flange c is set under, or, in other words, the toe end of the shoe extends a short distance beyond the front end of the flange, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
In use the calks B and C are placed in position, after which the nails g are placed in position, as illustrated in the drawings, thereby securely attaching the calks to the shoe.
It will be understood that the nails g should be formed of such material that their inner ends can be bent against the body of the shoe to securely attach the calks.
It Will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to easily remove the calks by removing the nails g, which can be done by cutting off theinner ends, which have been bent, and driving .the nails outward, after which the calks are free to be removed. It will be understood that by providing the grooves d2 and f, and locating the nails g in said grooves, the calks will be bound in proper position and will not become liable to displacement from use. It will be understood that the nails g should be provided with the heads g', said heads assisting in holding the calks in proper position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the lshoe A, provided with flanges a and c, said flanges `provided with slots or openings, the removable calks B and C provided with lateral shanks or Iianges having grooves upon their top or upper sides, and the nails g, all arranged substantially as described and for the purpose speciiied. w
' ANDREV WEIGAND.
