Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES DALE, JR, or LONDON, ENGLAND.
VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,282, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed October 28, 1895. Serial No. 567,188. (No model.) Patented in England October 17, 1895, No. 19,532,- in France October 22, 1895, No. 251.105, and in Belgium October 22,1895,No.118,01'7.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES DALE, Jr., a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 73 Pimlico Road, London, England, have invented certain new and usef ul Improvements in Valves, (for which I have obtained patents in England, No. 19,532, dated October 17, 1895 in France, No. 251,105, dated October 22, 1895, and in Belgium, No. 118,017, dated October 22, 1895;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to valves; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the valve with the cap screwed down, and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cap removed. Fig. 3 is a side view showing a modification.
The body cl of the valve is provided with a screw-threaded nozzle 01, and c is a cap adapted to be screwed over the nozzle d to close the opening to the valve. In order to prevent the cap from being lost when removed or unscrewed, a pivoted arm a is connected with the body d ldy means of a band I), and the said arm is provided with a band I) at its free end. The band I) encircles the cap 0, and sis a spring arranged between In the modification shown in Fig. 3 two arms a and o. are used. These arms are pivoted on pins 19 projecting from the band I), and s is a spring mounted on one of the pins 1) and bearing against one of the arms a. This spring 8 operates to throw over the cap as soon as it has been unscrewed from the nozzle.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a valve-body provided with a screw-threaded nozzle, of a revoluble screw-cap provided with flanges at its upper and lower ends, an arm pivoted at its lower end to the valve-body and provided with a band at its upper end encircling the said screw-cap, and a supporting-spring interposed between the said band and the upper flange on the screw-cap, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a'valve-body provided with a screw-threaded nozzle, of arevoluble screw-cap provided with flanges at its upper and lower ends, an arm pivoted at its lower end to the valve-body and provided with a band at its upper end encircling the said screw-cap, a spring 8 connected to the said arm and operating to throw back the cap automatically, and a supporting-spring interposed between the said band and the upper flange on the screw-cap, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
