This invention has reference to improvements in wire-stretchers; and it consists in 15 the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stretcher shown in position on and in the act Fig. 2 is a detailed perspective view of the stretcher. Figs. 3 and 4 are views taken on opposite sides of the stretcher.

The object of the invention is to provide a 2 5 device which will grip the wire and maintain a permanent hold thereon while the same is being stretched.

A designates the body of the stretcher or clutch, which is here shown with an aperture 0 at its outer end to attach an operating-lever or other device, and at its opposite end the same is bifurcated to constitute the forks B and O. The fork B is turned backward upon itself to form a clutch-hook D, while the fork 3 5 O is formed with the V-shaped notch E, which also constitutes a clutch, the said last-named notch and the notch or depression of the hook being disposed in opposite directions, as shown. However, both clutches or notches 4o ext end in planes longitudinal with the handle or body portion.

In operation the wire strand F is lodged in hook D, and the handle or body portion is turned downward or in line with the wire strand, so as to engage the same with the 5 clutch or notch E, and a continuation of said downward movement forms akink or bend in the wire, which, together with the wedging hold gained thereon by the V-shaped notches, prevents the wire or clutch from slipping.

The device is formed of a single integral piece of metal and is very cheap of manufacture and at the same time effective in operation.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A wire-stretcher comprising the body portion, extensions B and O therefrom, the latter being inwardly notched at its extremity, and hook D at the extremity of fork B, said hook being disposed laterally or in a plane substantially parallel with the plane of the notched extremity of fork C, substantially as shown and described.

2. A wire-stretcher comprising a body portion, the rigid projecting forks B and O integral with the body portion, fork 0 being notched inward at its extremity, and backwardly-turned hook D on fork B, said hook being projected laterally from the fork and in a plane parallel with the plane of fork C, substantially as shown and described.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a wirestretcher comprising a body portion bifurcated at one end with the rigid integral forks of the bifurcation oppositely notched with said notches arranged in line substantially transverse of the body portion, whereby the device is adapted to operate in holding the wire for stretching in the manner set forth and shown.
