Description

(No Model.)
W. B. BENISON.
BIT FOR ANIMALS. No. 559,319. Patented Apr. 28, 1896.
' F"; I FIG 2 A/LIH ESEE- Inventor W QZO/M/g E,
NITED ATENT OFF CE.
BIT FOR ANIMALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 559,319, dated April 28, 1896. Application filed August 15, 1895. Serial No. 559,307. (No model.) Patented in England October 22,1892,No.18,924=.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ILLIAM BEDELL BENI- SON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of Holly Bank, Kings Heath, county of lVorcester, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bits for Animals, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 18,924, bearing date October 22, 1892,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bits for animals suitable for both driving and riding purposes. I attain these improvements by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a plan of the invention.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The bit is composed of two cheek-pieces A A, and two mouthpieces B and O, the latter being placed one above the other. The upper bar or mouthpiece B works in a vertical direction, being attached to the cheek-pieces A by upright beams A, on which eyes B at the ends of the bar B run. The lower bar or mouthpiece 0 works in a horizontal direction between two bars A A running parallel to one another in the cheek-pieces. To the ends of this lower mouthpiece are attached at either end rings 0, which prevent the mouthpiece passing' between the parallel bars A and to which the reins are attached. The mouthpieces B and C may be either straight or curved.
To the lower bar or mouthpiece a nose-band, which is detachable at pleasure, is supplied.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In bits for animals, the combination with the cheek-pieces A, A, having at their upper part the upright beams A, and at their lower part the horizontal bars A A with the movable bars Band C, substantially as set forth and shown.
