RICHARD M. SKINNER, OF FLEMINGSBURG, KENTUCKY.
GARMENT-SUPPO'RTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,430, dated April 14, 1896.
Serial No. 56 '7, 9 91. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD M. SKINNER, of Flemingsburg, in the county of Fleming and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invent-ion is to provide a new and improved garment-supporter which is simple and durable in construction, readily applied, and especially designed for securely and conveniently holding up mens drawers to prevent ripping and bagging in the seat.
The inventionconsists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indi; cate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the garments with the improvement applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged end elevation of the improvement as applied and with the garments in section, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improvement.
The improved garment-supporter is pro-- vided with a safety-pin A, of any approved construction and adapted to engage the drawers B at the waistband over the wearers hip. On the shank A of the safety-pin A is held a hook A adapted to be hooked upon the upper edge of the waistband of the trousers (J, as is plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the front part of the said hook A is formed into aloop A adapted to straddle the shank of the button D, engaged by one of the suspenderends E, as is plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.
By reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen t t the shank A of the safety-pin, the hool A and the loop A are all made of the same piece of wire; but I do not limit myself to the particular construction shown.
Now it will be seen that when the device is applied as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the drawers A are supported from the trousers O, and a lateral movement is prevented, owing to the loop A straddling the button D of the trousers. Bythe arrangementthus described and shown the drawers are securely supported, and the ripping and bagging in the seat are entirely prevented. 7
It will further be seen that the drawers and trousers may be readily disconnected by simply lifting the hook A upward to disengage the loop A from the button D and the hook A from the trousers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A garment-supporter, comprisingasafety-pin adapted to engage the Waistband of a pair of drawers, a hook secured to the safetypin and extending therefrom, the said hook being formed at its front with two hook members spaced apart and extending downward or in direction of the safety-pin, whereby they can hook upon the waistband of a pair of trousers, and an intermediate or central loop formed by the inner sides of the hook members, the hook members and the loop being approximately in the same horizontal plane, substantially as shown and described.
2. A garment-supporter comprising a safety-pin adapted to engage the waistband of a pair of drawers, a hook formed integral with the shank of the safety-pin and extending upwardly and forwardly to hook upon the waistband of a pair of trousers, and a loop formed on the front portion of the said hook to straddle a button on the trousers, substantially as shown and described.
