SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,882, dated April '7, 1896. Application filed June 19, 1895. Serial No. 553,346. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MADISON W. REEvEs, of Sayre, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, which form part of this specification.
This invention pertains to improvements in swings, the object being to simplify the construction and arrangement of devices of this character, as well as accelerating their motion, by providing vibratory supports for sustaining the weight of the swing.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the swing. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing diiferent positions thereof in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Each side of the base for the swing consists of the parallel beams A, separated sufficiently to accommodate the converging uprights B, which are pivoted therebetween, as shown. The upper ends of these uprights are pivotally secured between the short strips 0, the latter being connected by the top transverse piece D.
The swing -arms E converge downward slightly, being secured at their upper ends to the inner strips 0, and supported by the lower ends of the said arms is the seat and foot-support F, having arranged thereover the canopy G.
The operation of the swing will be apparent, the same receiving its vibrations through the backward and forward movement of the pivoted supporting-uprights.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the base, the uprights arranged in pairs and pivoted to the base, the uprights of each pair arranged one in front of the other and with a slight upward convergence, the short strips 0 connecting the uncrossed uprights at their upper extremities, and the swing proper supported by the said strips and depending between the uprights, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the base, the uprights B arranged in pairs, the uprights in each pair being in single lines parallel with the line of swing, the short strips 0 pivotally connecting the upper ends of the uprights, transverse connecting-strip D, and the swing proper depending between the uprights, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MADISON IV. REEVES.
