To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RUDOLPH BORGERDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn or Bunion Plasters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description of the inventiomsuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in plasters or shields for corns, bunions, and the like. In such shields as heretofore constructed it is customary to form a body portion of some soft fibrous material,'which is provided with a central hole or opening, through Which the corn or bunion is designed to protrude, said body portion being adapted to take the pressure of the shoe ofi from the affected part. These shields are usually made of such material as increases rather than relieves the pain by the pressure forcing said shield into the flesh of the wearer, at the same time compressing the corn or bunion and the immediately-surrounding flesh into the hole or opening, thereby frequently causing excruciating pain. It is these objections that my invention is chiefly designed to overcome.

The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof on line 0000, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a View of a slight modification.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a corn or bunion shield, the body portion of which is made of any preferred soft fibrous material and of any suitable shape, preferably round, the same being provided with a central hole or opening a. The top surface of said body portion is provided with an adhesive substance at, as is usual in articles of this nature.

The shield A is divided into segments B by one or more transverse grooves or recesses b, which are preferably located at diametricallyopposite points and extend nearly through the body portion, thin connecting portions 1) being left for uniting said segments together.

The object of thus forming the shield in segments is to make the same flexible, whereby it will yield to a limited extent to the pressure of the shoe, so that said body portion will not be forced into the flesh of the wearer and the flesh surrounding the corn or bunion will not be compressed into the hole or opening therein. In this manner I provide an eflicient and at the same time a comfortable shield.

In Fig. 3 I have shown amodification which consists, essentially, in placing three or more grooves'or recesses (1 close together, thereby obtaining results as in the other forms.

From what has been said it will be seen that I have produced a corn or .bunion shield which is extremely simple in construction and which will form an efficient and comfortable protection for the affected parts.

I claim as my invention- A corn or bunion plaster, comprising an annular or ring-like body portion provided with a central opening and having a series of transverse grooves or cut-outs in one of its faces, whereby a series of thin unplastered yielding portions are formed in said body portion, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
