PILE FABRIC.
SPECIFICATON forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,248, dated l'Varch 10, 1896. Application iiled November 20, 1895. Serial No. 569,540. (No specimens) Patented in Canada October 23,1895, No. 50,375.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUDGER BEAUREGARD, of St. Joseph de Levis, in the county of Levis, Province of Quebec, and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Pile Fabric, (for Which I have obtained Letters Patent in Canada, No. 50,37 5, dated October 23, 1895,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved fabric arranged to form an imitation of Persian lamb.
The invention consists principally of a fabricbacking and a heavy strand of Wool or other material interlaced With and knotted on the backing in a particular novel manner to form loose raised loops on the face of the backing.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had t0 the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in Which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 a face vieW of the improved fabric; and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same, showing the manner of forming the loops and knots.
The fabric is provided with a backing A, made of canvas, felt or other suitable fabric, and strands B of Wool or other material are interlaced With the backing to form raised loose loops B covering the face of the backing and preferably extending in different directions, so as to imitate as closely as possible Persian lamb. The loops B' are knotted at their ends on the backing A, and for this purpose, as Well as for interlacing the strands B,-
be knotted on each end; but it may be knotted at one end and only interlaced with the backing at the other end. The knots B2 may be formed on the under side of the backing or on the top thereof, but under the loops, so that the knots do not appear' on the face of the fabric.
When the fabric has been formed as described, then itis dyed and singed under the flame of a candle, lamp or like article, so as to more closely imitate Persian lamb.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. Afabric comprising a suitable backing, and a strand of Wool or other material interlaced With the backing to form loose, raised loops on the face of the backing, each loop having its ends knotted on the backing, sub` stantially as shown and described.
2. A fabric comprising a suitable backing, and a strand of Wool or other material interlaced With the backing to form loose, raised loops on the face of the backing, each loop having its ends knotted on the backing at different places, substantially as described.
