LOCK FOR SLIDING DOORS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 555,779, dated March 3, 1896. Application filed May 3,1893. Renewed August 6, 1S95. Serial No. 558,421. (No model.)

Be it known that we, ALBERT P. LARSSON and KAI SCHULTZ, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have in* vented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks for Sliding Doors; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door securers or stops and it consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and afterward denitely pointed out in the claim, due reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein- Figures l and 2 are views showing the invention attached to a sliding door, and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of the device.

Referring to said figures, A indicates the plate having hinged thereto the leaf D, and secured to the side of the car at one side of the car-door opening, and II- indicates the sliding car-door. To the edge of the sliding door II is secured a bracket I, provided with apertures e' e', and to the same edge of the door and above the bracket I is pivoted a swinging latch J, provided with an offset j, having apertures le 7c. lVhen the door is closed and the hinged leaf D folded or let down, said leaf will rest immediately over the bracket I on the door and the odset j of the swinging latch J will rest immediately over the hinged leaf, the apertures in said leaf, bracket, and swinging latch then exactly coinciding or registering. A wire may then be passed through said apertures and the ends thereof secured together by means of a lead seal in the manner well known.

Many other useful purposes of the device will readily manifest themselves to persons skilled in applying articles of builders hardware which are not necessary here to mention, and we wish to be understood as claiming the device wherever used as a stop or securer for doors, windows, or equivalent structures.

What we claim is- The combination with the plate A,the leaf D hinged thereto, of a sliding door II, a bracket I having apertures 1'., e', secured to said door, a swinging latch J, pivoted to the edge of the door above the said bracket and provided with an offset j, having apertures 7a 7a adapted to register with the apertures z' c' for the reception of a sealing-wire, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
