Be it known that I, ANTONIO A. AGERO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Panoramic Exhibitin g-Cabinets, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to panoramic exhibition-cabinets, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this character by means of which any number of views or representations of persons, places, or objects may be successively brought before a lens or other magnifier, through which the representations may be seen, the principal features of the invention being the construction of the cabinet-case and the arrangement of the various parts thereof, the method of and means for supporting the views or representations and bringing them successively before the eye, and the disposal thereof successively as each has been viewed.

Ihe invention is fully disclosed in the following speciiication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which* Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the body of my improved panoramic cabinet, showing the hinged top or cover thrown back, and a section of a box beneath the cabinet adapted to receive the views or representations as each is successively examined and to be placed within the cabinet for storage or shipment; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of this device with the hinged cover closed.

In the practice of my invention I provide a box or` casing A, preferably rectangular in form, but which may be of any desired shape, size, or material, wood being probably preferable. This casing is provided with glass sides B, each of which is also provided with a hinged cover C, but one of which is shown, and the top D is also of glass and provided with a hinged top or cover E, having the usual straps F to prevent its being thrown too far back, and the hinged side covers C may also be provided with similar straps, if desired. The bottom Gr of the casing is supported on ways g at each side and extends through the front wall, and is provided with a knob by which it may be slid back and forth, as and for the purposes hereinafter set out.

In the front wall of the box or casing, and preferably near the top thereof, is an opening H, behind which is secured a frame HV', in which is mounted a magnifying-lens h, which is preferably of substantially the same size as the opening I-I, and the lens h may be so mounted as to render it longitudinally adj ustable, if desired, in order to change or adjust the focal distance thereof. Above the opening H, and at each side thereof, are hinged shades or shutters K, which are adapted to fold, the side shades into the opening, one

above the other, and the upper shade down- Wardly over the others. The upper shade is provided with a knob k, by means of which it is opened, and all three of said shades are formed in sections, which are connected by means of hinges which permit of the Outer sections being folded upon the others, thereby rendering the whole shade capable of being extended forwardly to the full extent, as shown in the drawings, or of being folded so as to decrease the length of the shade to the length of the inner sections, as will be readily understood, and thus accommodate the length of the shade to the eye of the observer. Of course other forms or constructions for this purpose may be employed, if desired.

Hinged at L to the rear of the casing A is a boxshaped section M, of the same width or breadth and height as the main casing, adapted to receive a predetermined number of photographs or other'views or representations M of persons, objects, or places mounted on cardboard or Otherwise, in the usual manner.

The hinged section M is provided` with a sliding back m, operated by a rod O, pivotally connected therewith by a pin O', which eX- tends through a longitudinal slot in the side of the hinged section M, and the rod O extends forward and rests on a guide or support o, secured to the side of the main casing A.

At the inner end of thevhinged section M is arranged a frame P, which extends across the top and down both sides, against which the IOO photographs or other views are adapted to be pressed or held by the sliding back, and the inner part of the bottom of said hinged case is cut away, as shown, forming a longitudinal opening or space, and within the space or opening thus formed is a rod or bar R, which extends through the sides and is provided at one end with a head R.

The rod R is revoluble and has secured thereto a narrow plate r, adapted to extend forwardly and close the opening or space 'formed by cutting out the forward part of the bottom of the hinged section, as shown in Fig. l, and a spring S, secured at one end to the bottom of said section, is adapted to hold said Y plate r normallyin the position shown in Fig. l, and thus close the opening in the bottom of the hinged section, and when the sliding bottom G of the main casing A is shoved backward to the full extent it will also rest under the end of and support the plate fr and close the opening. The opening in the bottom of the hinged section is described as longitudinal, and is so with reference to said section, but it is transverse to or of theentire device, as will be seen and understood. I also provide a box T, which is designed to be placed beneath the cabinet-casing A and to receive one after another the photographs or other views as they are successively viewed or examined through the lens h, as will be hereinafter described, and this box is of such dimensions as to enable it to be placed within the cabinet-Casin g for the purpose of packing or shipment.

rlhe cabinet-casing A is supported by legs U, which may be secured thereto in any desired manner. I prefer, however, to detachably secure them, in order that they also may be more conveniently packed for shipment or other purposes.

In operation the photographs or other views are iirst placed in the hinged section M, and the shields K opened and properly arranged, and the hinged cover and also the hinged sides opened, if desired, the arrangement of the hinged shutters and the hinged cover and sides depending upon the character and the amount of light, as will be readily understood. The photographs or other representations may then bc viewed or examined through the lens 71, and as each in turn is examined the rod R is turned, and the` plate r thereon depressed, allowing it to drop into the box T, it being understood that the sliding bottom G is first pulled out far enough to admit of this operation.

The arrangement is such that but one photograph can drop through the slot as the bottom of the hinged casing M at a time, and at each operation the spring S forces the plate r back to its original position, and the rod() is operated to bring another photograph or view forward by sliding the back support N in the direction of the lens, and this operation can be repeated till all of the views have been examined and deposited in the box beneath.

In practice I employ two of the rods O, one on each side, to secure the even and regular operation of the device, and also means for holding the hinged cover, and also means for holding the hinged sides of the main easing in the closed position when desired, and means also for holding the hinged casing M.

It will be understood that any number of photographs or other representations may be packed in the box T, and, as hereinbefore stated, this box may be placed in the main casing for shipment or other purposes,

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A panoramic cabinet consisting oi a box having a lens at one end and glass sides and top each of which is provided with a hinged cover, and a rear end section, adapted to contain photographs or other views the forward part of the bottom thereof being cut away forming an opening therein and means for successively discharging said views through said opening, consisting of a rod extending lengthwise of said opening and through the sides of the end section and provided with a plate secured thereto, adapted to be held so as to close the opening by a spring secured to the casin g, substantially as shown and described.

2. A panoramic cabinet consisting of a box having a lens at one end and glass sides and top each of which is provided with a hinged cover, and a hinged rear end section adapted to contain photographic or other views, the forward part of the bottom of said section being cut away forming an opening therein and means for successively discharging said views through said opening into a box, or receptacle, prepared therefor, substantially as shown and described.

Apanoramic cabinet, consisting of abox having a lens at one end and glass sides and top provided with hinged covers, and a hinged rear end section adapted to receive and hold photographic or other views, the forward part of the bottom of which is cut away forming a longitudinal opening therein, and means for successively discharging said views through said opening, consisting of a sliding back in said end section, provided with means for sliding it forward, and devices closing the opening in the bottom and adapted to be opera-ted to discharge the said views, substantially as shown and described.

said slide, and rod with its plate, to successively discharge said views through said opening, substantially as shown and described.

5. Apanoramio cabinet, consisting of a box having a lens in one end and glass sides and top, and a hinged rear section adapted to reoeive photographie or other views, and provided With a longitudinal slot or opening in the bottom thereof, the main box being provided with a sliding` bottom adapted to Close said opening, and the hinged section with means adapted to be operated to discharge said vieWs successively through said opening when the sliding bottom is Withdrawn, substantially as shown and described.
