BlLLlARD-CUE CHALK APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,625, dated February 11, 1896.
Application filed April 26, 1895. Serial No. 547,284. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HANS LIEBREICH, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Billiard-Cue Chalk Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a billiard-cue chalk apparatus and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a billiard-table having my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the apparatus. Fig. 3 is a side view of the apparatus.
The device consists of the bracket 1,which is secured to the under side of the table, the outer end of the bracket extending beyond the edge of the table. The outer end of the said bracket is formed into a rest 2, having around its sides the thread 3. The cake of chalk 4 is retained on said rest 2, the packing 5 being interposed between the chalk and the rest. The cake of chalk used is the ordinary rectangular-shaped kind. A bell-shaped part (3 is provided in its lower end with an internal thread adapted to engage the thread 3 of the bracket. Said part 6 is provided with a compartment 7, rectangular in shape and adapted to receive the chalk 4. From the compartment 7 the throat of the bell converges and then flares out to the mouth. The bell is slanted at an angle to a perpendicular. The
device can be used on both billiard and pool tables, and one device can be placed on each side of the table, if desired.
The tip of the one is run down through the throat of the bell 6 and against the cake of chalk. The upper end of the one is then taken between the palms of the open hands and revolved around, and at the same time the hands are alternately passed in and out, the consequence of which is that the tip of the one is thoroughly chalked and the body of the one is free from chalk, and thus the table and the hands of the players will not be defaced by chalk.
In the operation described the narrow portion of the bell-shaped part 6 serves as a fulcrum-point for the one, as indicated in Fig. 2.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
A device for chalking the tips of cues, consisting of a receptacle secured to a stationary point, said receptacle adapted to retain the chalk, the throat of the said receptacle converging from the chalk-compartment and then flaring out to the mouth, the cue-tip adapted to come in contact with the chalk through the said throat and the narrow part of the throat adapted to serve as a fulcrumpoint for the one, as set forth.
