IIIILIBERT GAGNIEUR, OF LYON S, FRANCE.
PAPER-BORDERING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,906, dated February 4, 1896.
Application tiled October 21, 1895. Serial No. 566,442. (No model) Patented in France March 14, 1895,1To. 245,513, and in England April 9, 1895,1T0. 7,294.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIBERT GAGNIEUR, a citizen of the French Republic, and a resident of Lyons, France, have invented a certain new and useful Paper-Bordering Machine, (for which I have obtained Letters Pattent in France, No. 245,513, dated March 14, 1895, and in Great Britain, No. 7,294, dated April 9, 1895,) of which the following is a speciiication.
The apparatus described in the present specification is to be used in bordering papers of all sizes, in black or in colors, but especially for bordering paper and envelopes for mourning. Y
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the front of the machine; Fig. 2, a vertical side elevation thereof; Fig. 3, a horizontal section on line fry of Fig. 2 Fig. 4, a specimen of black-bordered paper, bordered with this machine, the parts in white being those covered by the plates disposed on the machine.
The letters of reference designate the same objects in the different figures.
The machine consists of a support A, having a table b, on which is iined a plate s of the same dimensions as the paper that is to be bordered. The upper part of the support A is provided with cheeks carrying the axle of the balance-beam C, carrying at one side the rod t, fixed to the crank-lever d, the shaft of which has another crank-lever, e, to which is attached a pedal p and a pin e', under which bears the one end of a two-armed lever p2, carrying the weight p. At the other end the balance-beam is connected to a plunger i with plate lo, guided by rods j, to which plate are fixed rods l, carrying hollowed plates n fn. n fitted respectively to coincide with the white spaces to be left on the bordered paper.
This machine is used as follows: The plunger being lifted by a pressure on the pedal,
the workman places on the plate s a pile of white sheets cut in any required shape and releases the pedal, so that the weight p opcrates to press the plates n n' n onto the pile of paper sheets. After this he takes a flat or a round brush filled with black or color and passes it over the paper between the plates.Y He then presses the pedal, removes the bordered sheet, and, after releasing the pedal again, when the weight of the apparatus will again exercise a pressure on the pile of paper, the same operations may be repeated for the next sheet.
I claim as my invention- In a machine for use Vin bordering paper, the combination of a support, a table held thereby, a plunger movable vertically to and from said table, plates equivalent in size and shape to the White spaces to be left on the bordered paper carried by said plunger, a pedal, a weight, and means for connecting said pedal and weight to the plunger for movement thereof for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I have signed this specication in presence of two witnesses. i
PHILIBERT GAGNIEUR.
